Okanagan Gymnastics Centre athletes shine at Lady Luck Invitational in Las Vegas

Kelowna, BC – On January 17th, seven athletes and their coaches, from the Okanagan Gymnastics Centre travelled to Las Vegas to compete in the Lady Luck Invitational. The annual competition attracts over 1600 athletes from the United States, Canada and Mexico and takes place in three gyms over the course of the weekend.

The seven gymnasts and their coaches Sergei Chelest and Yohandy Diaz, from the Okanagan Gymnastic Centre came home with an impressive 3 gold medals, 2 silvers and 3 bronze.

Jessica Ionce who, recently moved to Kelowna from Saskatchewan, persevered after she suffered a fall on the balance beam in training, to capture first place on both the balance beam and uneven bars. Jessica walked away with an impressive bronze medal finish overall in the Level 8 category.

After taking a break from gymnastics for nearly a year, Veronica Tarasenco made her return to competition at the Lady Luck Invitational and placed in the top 10 among Level 9 competitors.

Competing in Level 3, Taya Renou had strong performances resulting in a fourth place finish overall.

In the level 7 category, the Okanagan team took home a 3rd place win as a team. This was a result of the performances of Caitlin Keeler who finished second overall, Milani Ritchie who was third overall and Rae Rowarth and Katie Flaten who both had a top ten finish.

Our classes are filled with FUN ways to learn balance, coordination, spatial awareness and safety landings. All instructors are NCCP certified and carry valid First Aid Level 1.
