Kelowna Cohousing Presents First Public Information Session
Kelowna BC – SMARTer Growth Partnerships, a non-for-profit initiative, will be holding a free public information session about the benefits a cohousing development could deliver to the Kelowna community. This event will take place at the Kelowna Innovation Centre on Wednesday, March 6th from 7-9pm.

SMARTer Growth Partnerships is proud to bring this information session to the Innovation Center for preliminary discussion about the sustainable, financial and social benefits a cohosuing development can bring to our community. Here, guests will be able to listen and interact with three cohousing experts that are active members in the Kelowna community: Craig Hostland, Greg Harris, and Dr. Gord Lovegrove.

This event will play an integral role in shaping the future of Kelowna’s urban landscape. Over the past decade Kelowna population has grown rapidly. However, Kelowna's residential layout has created problems with transportation and access to basic amenities for many locals. Considering these circumstances the City of Kelowna has expressed great interest in the idea of cohousing because it not only limits this disconnect through higher density living, but can also improve social interactions, housing affordability and the well-being of residents in and around the area.

Cohousing combines personal privacy with the benefits of living in a close-knit community. Residents of the community participate in the planning, design, and ongoing maintenance of their community. Cohousing developments offer social, and community-based benefits and are designed to be environmentally sustainable. The average range of households in a cohousing development can fall anywhere between 15-30, with a wide variety of demographics who live amongst them.

If you would like to find out more about cohousing, our event on March 6th will answer any questions you might have. So, come out and help shape Kelowna’s future cohousing development.
