Eco Art Documentary Double Feature
Apr 12, 2018
Press release - you are invited:
Presented by the UBC Okanagan Eco Art Incubator research initiative.
WHAT: Documentary Double Feature
WHEN: Thursday, April 12 — 7:00PM - 9:00PM
WHERE: Innovation Centre Theatre (460 Doyle Avenue, 1st floor)
Join us at the Innovation Centre Theatre for a screening of The Ethel Lane House and premiere screening of Daylighting the Classroom, both produced by Eco Art Incubator. The Ethel Lane House follows the story of a Kelowna family building a laneway house to attempt the Living Building Challenge, one of the most rigorous set of building requirements for a completely sustainable building in the world, but also provide a home for their brother, who lives with a mental disability. Daylighting the Classroom tells the story of what happens when school children take up the fight — using art — to uncover the concrete-buried wetland beneath their school grounds and save a species at risk! Both films explore the transformation of the land and the human responsibility to nurture, protect, and coexist with the natural world.
Following the two screenings will be a short Q&A with Daylighting filmmaker Shimshon Obadia and Ethel Lane filmmaker Denise Kenney, who also serves as producer for both projects and co-founder of Eco Art Incubator. Admission will be by donation and we ask that all attendees try to arrive at least 15 minutes early.
