What is Dry Eye?
Dry eye is a common condition that occurs when your tears are unable to provide adequate lubrication in your eyes. It is estimate that 25% of Canadians suffer from some form of dry eye.
What are the symptoms of dry eye?
Symptoms can range from excessive tearing, irritation, soreness, burning, itching, light sensitivity, redness, blurred vision and difficulty wearing contact lenses.
What are the risk factors for developing dry eye?
Computer use, contact lens wear, age, environment, hormones, smoking, medications, and medical conditions (such as autoimmune disorders) can increase your risk for developing dry eye disease.
Understanding your dry eye
There are 2 distinct types of dry eye disease. Evaporative dry eye, and aqueous deficient dry eye. At your complimentary assessment, our team will use a variety of specialized equipment to determine which type of dry eye disease you may be experiencing. These tests will help our team of Optometrists customize your treatment plan and help relieve your dry eye symptoms.
