Enactus “Dollars and Sense†Program
Dollars and Sense is a program designed to empower typically low income individuals in our community who are in need of the financial training and tools to help break the cycle of poverty. This program is presented and facilitated by Okanagan College student volunteers within the Enactus Okanagan College organization in partnership with the Metro Up Foundation. It is now entering its fourth year of operations with very positive results.
The program covers the use and management of assets, banking, budgeting, credit and consumerism. Each session also includes an economic and nutritious home cooked meal. Last year, 17 participants successfully completed the program and qualified for a matched savings program offered by Metro Up. One individual received additional mentorship from Enactus Okanagan College to embark on a new self-employment venture.
The Okanagan Mission Lions and the Kelowna Lioness Clubs are proud to fund this very worthy program. Everyone wins; the participants, the student leaders, and the community.
The Kelowna Okanagan Mission Lions Club meet at the Okanagan Mission Community Hall on Lakeshore Drive. We work hard and have fun with our many fundraising activities for the benefit of the less fortunate in our local communities. Over the years since the club’s incorporation in 1969, we have raised and distributed close to $800,000.
New members and new ideas are always welcome. Help your community through the Lions.
