Local Gluten-Free Bakery Hosting Kickstarter Event For Publication of Cookbook with a 20 Episode Series on YouTube Cooking Channel
Oct 13, 2014
The owners of Four Spoons Gluten-Free Bakery in Kelowna are hosting a Kickstarter launch campaign on Sunday, October 19th to fundraise for the publishing of their first cookbook: Soft, Chewy, Gooey, Awesome: Recipes From Our Gluten-Free Bakery. The book will be available in both print and digital formats, and will feature a cooking video for each recipe on the Four Spoons YouTube Cooking channel.
The event will also be a thank-you party for current bakery customers. “We are making the transition from baking to educating, and as a result will be shutting the doors of our bakery at the end of October. We’ve had a very successful 3 years at the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market because of our amazing customers - and so we want to say thanksâ€, says Matthew Knegt, co-founder of Four Spoons Bakery. “We’ve put together some wonderful thank-you gifts for our customers which will be available at the eventâ€, he adds.
“Our cookbook, Soft, Chewy, Gooey, Awesome, will feature all of our bakery recipes, plus a few extras thrown in. It will also be full of customer photos and storiesâ€, says Four Spoons Bakery co-founder Nicole Knegt. “We’re delighted to have our customers be part of the bookâ€.
“Innovation is central to what we are doingâ€, adds Nicole. “We’ve heard countless times from our bakery customers how difficult it is to bake gluten-free. That is why we are making the book available in both print and digital formats, and publishing videos for each recipe on our YouTube Cooking Channel. When people see how easy our recipes are to make, and get step-by-step video instruction, they will be inspired to do it themselves. They’ll be able to access video directly from each recipe page in the digital book. We want to make it as easy as possible!â€
This book will be the first print and digital publication in a line-up of educational resources for individuals with celiac disease, gluten-sensitivity, and other dietary restrictions. “ We launched our resource website fourspoonsglutenfreerecipes.com a few months ago with lots of material. We blog regularly and are working with an amazing team of local professionals to develop accurate and trustworthy resources. We are now ready to build on this full-time and are excited for what is in storeâ€, says Matthew.
The Four Spoons team includes consulting dietician and Campus Health Research Coordinator at UBC Okanagan Casey Hamilton, dietician Selena DeVries, owner of Healthbean Digestive Clinic, food scientist Abraham Navarro, the Nourished Chef Scott Nystrom, and recipe consultant Mandy Stevens.
The event will be held on October 19th from 1-4pm at the new heART School art studio, 1546 Pandosy St. in Kelowna, and will feature live music and delicious gluten-free baking. A 15 minute Kickstarter presentation will be given at 2 and 3pm. The public is welcome to drop in anytime and will be able to pledge at the event.
