Local Filmmaker’s short film takes home top prize at HorrorFest XIII
Bowen O’Brien’s short film 'Guilty Conscious’ took home Best Film along with Best Story, Best Acting, & Best Cinematography at Horrorfest in Kelowna. This marks the second time he has won top honours at the annual event but the first time he’s been the lead actor.

Filmed entirely in Vernon, the film tells a gripping tale of how someone’s mind quickly spirals downward after an abrupt end of a relationship. The main character of the film starts to see visions after shouldering the blame for the death of his girlfriend in a tragic accident.

The Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmaking (OSIF) hosted the event in Kelowna and screened all of the films to a packed house last Saturday.
2022 has been a good year for 19-year old Vernon director, who’s film ‘The Gift’ won the Deja View Filmmaking Contest earlier this year with local Matthew Brown (Field of Screams) and Tanya Keller of Kelowna.

“It’s amazing to see how the film scene in Kelowna and Vernon is growing and supporting local filmmakers” said O’Brien. “OSIF has a strong following in Kelowna and we’re very lucky that the Okanagan Screen Arts Society has revived Vernon’s Towne Cinema to build the community and support local filmmakers” he added.

You can view 'Guilty Conscious’ and Bowen's other films at the Bowen O’Brien Show on YouTube.
