KSS Global Awareness Community Halloween Dog Walk
Oct 22, 2022
Kelowna Secondary School’s Global Awareness Club’s Community Halloween Dog Walk at Mission Creek Park.
Next weekend at 2pm on Sunday, October 30th, Kelowna Secondary School’s Global Awareness Club is hosting a Halloween Dog Walk at Mission Creek Dog Park. All proceeds from the Walk will be donated to Warm Hearts Pet Safe Havens, a Victoria-based non-profit organization that works to provide survivors of domestic violence with housing shelter for them and their pets.
The need for pet-friendly, sustainable housing for survivors and their pets is incredibly high across the province. Although there are around 100 transition houses in the province, less than half of them offer support and services for pets. Current statistics also show that 56% of people facing domestic violence hesitate more to leave the situation because of their pets. Warm Hearts works toward solving this. Through donations, volunteers, and spreading awareness, their work aids in creating opportunities for those in need of shelters for them and their pets. A recent domestic violence hotline study showed that 71% of callers wish for security for their pets when reaching out for shelters and other services.
Join the Global Awareness Club in partnership with Warm Hearts on Sunday, October 30th, where entries by donation will go toward a raffle prize from their sponsors. Hot chocolate will be provided as well as water and treats for your puppers. Dress yourself and your dog up in celebration of the Halloween spirit and donate to an excellent cause.
