NOW Canada Announces Grand Opening of New Townhouses in Kelowna
Jun 29, 2022

These 28 townhouses and community center provide affordable homes with on-site support for women and their children who are vulnerable and at-risk in our community. This project was the vision of the Hall family, who generously provided the land and fully funded the construction costs. It has now been donated to NOW Canada to operate for the community. The concept was first conceived in 2015, and after seven years of planning and collaboration residents were recently welcomed into their new homes.
The design has been created with ‘community’ strongly in mind, with a desire to establish a pride for the residents in where they live, in addition to a safe and secure environment. Support services are readily available so women and children can get the resources they need to help them through life’s challenges, as well as on-going assistance to support them as they move forward in their lives.
In the words from Liz Talbott, Executive Director of NOW Canada, “it was Ed Hall’s vision to create life enriching opportunities for resident moms and kids, so families can thrive and become part of a healthy and vibrant community. This vision has now come to fruition and will have positive impact in our community for many years to come”
Ed Hall commented: “The Hall Family’s vision for this initiative is: Pride- in where you live, as a life empowering vehicle. Our goal, at the outset, was to try to create the finest, safest, most secure and enriching living environment in Canada for at risk moms and their kids. We hope we have achieved this and that many many families will be able to experience friendship, neighborliness and enrichment for years to come.”
There is no doubt that this wonderful community will achieve and exceed all the above desires.
NOW Canada provides a continuum of care for women, youth and children in our region. This most recent housing development increases NOW Canada’s capacity in supporting their clients and is an exciting step towards their vision of a community where all women live healthy empowered lives, free from exploitation.
NOW Canada would also like to say a public thank you to the incredible generosity from the Hall Family and to everyone who has helped turn this dream into a reality.
