ZOUN, Joanne Marie

ZOUN, Joanne Marie

Joanne Marie Zoun passed away on November 23, 2024 with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 8, 1963 to Ferdinand and Willemina Zoun, the second of 4 children. Joanne lived in Trail and Montrose until 1969, then her parents moved to Kelowna where she spent most of her life. She loved the outdoors, playing, bike riding, going to the beach and going for hikes with her older brother Fred.

She met Dave Weiss at a BBQ at his place when she was 19. Dave opened her eyes to things such as fishing, camping, renovations, cooking, and many, many more. “He can do anything”. She was hooked. “Thanks for making be laugh so hard I would cry”.

“As her husband, I not only loved Joanne, I admired her. She was very diligent and thorough with every task she undertook. Thirty-four years with Interior Health, she was recognized for her dedicated service. She spent her last 20 sharing her knowledge of herbal benefits to help others. She was very precious to me. Always concerned about family. She was a lovely, kind, generous, loving person who had all the qualities that can only be found in the best of us. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten….Dave”.

It was wonderful to be part of such a beautiful, loving family. To the Weiss’s and the Denney’s, I loved you all very much – More than you will know.

Joanne is predeceased by her parents Ferdinand and Willemina Zoun and her older brother Fred Zoun. She is survived by the love of her life Dave Weiss of 42 years, her brothers Henry and Richard, her nephew Jordan, many relatives in the Netherlands and her best friend Hedy Thayer in Nova Scotia. We are like kindred spirits you and I. I love you very much.

I would like to thank Dr. Ellard at the Kelowna Cancer Centre, Dr. Cochran, Dr. Forman, the Oncology team at KBRH, Marissa Balahura for being there for me on this journey, Dr. Mike Van Vliet, the Palliative Nursing team, and all the nurses and doctors at the KBRH Emergency Department.

No service by request. Wayne Szopa of Clark’s Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.

You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s online register at www.clarksfuneral.ca

My condolences to Dave , her brothers Richards and Henry.and her nephew Jordan. I am going to miss my cousin Joanne.. When we were young we used to write letters to each other, the last few years through Social media . We kept each other informed what was going in our families . Her big wish was to visit het Dutch family in the Netherlands , unfortunately this dream never came true. I had the pleasure of meeting her in Kelowna. It was also great to meet my aunt Mien, Dave and my nephews. I think back to this with a warm feeling and cherish this visit. I will never forget her and I will always carry her in my heart . Richard, family and friends of Joanne; So sorry to hear of this very surprising loss at such a young age. Your family has really been devastated by tragedy these past couple of years. But the loss of Joanne was definitely one that reminds me how uncertain life is and how unfair it can be as well. I have known your family for 45 years and Joanne was always the one I thought would be around forever. She deserved to be! Just a very good, nice person.

I sincerely hope you can find peace and strength to carry on living the best life you can, she would want you to.

    Thinking of you all,

Trevor and Nancy Moelaert - Trevor Moelaert

My condolences to you Dave and all the extended family. So very sorry to hear of Joanne passing. I worked with her at KGH, she was always laughing and made every day brighter. Several years ago when I learned she had cancer I made her a CD of random songs to listen to. She was always a pleasure to be around. Kind regards Dee Tresoor. - Deanna Tresoor

Our sister-in-law's passing will take time to sink in. It has hit our family hard. Just 1.5 years ago we were celebrating Jo's retirement. She and my brother Dave had big plans to sell their property in Trail, B.C. and move back to Kelowna to be closer to family. Sadly, plans were put on hold when both her brother and mother passed away during this time within a short period. Joanne's own health issues soon followed, putting their dreams on hold. She truly deserved to fulfill those dreams. She was always kind, considerate, and very hardworking. Her laugh is something that will be deeply missed. Her bravery in the face of adversity has been remarkable. Dave and Jo were two peas in a pod. As a family we will stand by Dave's side every step of the way as we mourn the loss of this beautiful soul.

    Rest in peace Jo,

    We love you Dave,

    Darlene and Jack Denney

Joanne and I were best friends in elementary school back in the Belgo days. I thought of her often especially driving past her house on Rutland rd. She had the best laugh and was always smiling.

I missed you my friend. I really miss you now. It is a good reminder to reach out to old friends and stay in touch. My heart hurts for the family.

So sorry for your loss. - Connie (Rieger) Mitchell

I knew Joanne shortly after she and Dave met in the eighties. I saw through the years how much Joanne loved you Dave as well her family and those around her. I only wish Joanne would have had more time to enjoy her retirement. Both Angelika and I loved her spirit and we will miss not seeing her again. Words are hard to come by at a time like this to let you know how much Joanne and you Dave have meant to us over the years as true friends in your life are fewer and fewer as time goes by. - George and Angelika Dumanski Kelowna
