YOSHIDA, Sumiye (Sue)

November 17, 1928 - January 12, 2021

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our devoted, loving mother. She left us peacefully, surrounded by family at her son Daro’s home in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 92 years.

Beloved mother to Richard & Daro & proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren who all fondly called her ‘Baba’. Brayden, Richelle, Damyn, Randa, Kayla, Jay, Taya & 1 great grandaughter Lennon.

As a young woman born & raised in Vancouver, B.C. she experienced profound & difficult changes to her world. Her entire family was relocated & interned in Lemon Creek, B.C. during WWII. After the war she married Barin Yoshida & they moved to Toronto. Upon Sue’s graduation from Marvel Hairdressing School in 1958 the young couple & their 2 year old son Richard moved back to B.C. & made Nakusp their home.

Predeceased by her devoted husband Barin & until her passing the sole surviving member of 9 Obayashi siblings, many of whom also lived, worked & raised their families in Nakusp.

She lived a full & healthy life as a wife, homemaker & working mother who operated a successful hair salon in her home for an astonishing 50 plus years. She was hard working, loved to cook & took pride in her family home. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting, Japanese movies, Mahjong, Nintendo (Tetris) & spoiling her beloved dog Peppy.

Sue touched many hearts in many ways in her 92 years & blessed us all with the joy of her love & laughter.

She will be dearly missed & held forever in our hearts.

Sending my condolences to the Yoshida family.I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your mom.She was a beautiful lady. I got my hair cut and styled many times at your Mom’s salon. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you you at this sad time.Take care I lived in Nakusp for35 years.
