VIG, Gordon Elmer

VIG, Gordon Elmer

April 20, 1930 to April 14, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our most loved and respected husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Gordon on April 14, 2018.

Gordon was born in Bentley, Alberta to Oscar and Mary (Nygaard) Vig. He grew up, married, and raised his children in the Bentley, Eckville, and Red Deer areas of Alberta. In 1973 he and his wife Nonie moved their family to Kelowna, BC.

He is predeceased by his parents, sister Ann Barker and brother-in-law Norman Thompson. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Nonie; three children: son Kenneth (Carol) Vig, daughter Carol Gagnon, and son David (Barbara) Vig; seven grandchildren: Darrell (Brit) Vig, Jody (Arnold) Schwarz, Trevor (Hayley) Simkins, Jeremy (Carrie) Simkins, James (Katie) Vig, Bryan (Blake) Vig, Travis Vig; 15 great grandchildren: Austin, Alex, Ayden, Peyton, Hunter, Zachery, Emily, Hazel, Harvey, Preston, Lydia, Emma, Noah, Cameron and Caleb; sister Peggy Thompson; brother-in-law Gordon Barker; sister Linda (John) King and special friends Gary & Margaret Aitkens.

Gordon was very proud of his family and enjoyed large family gatherings with them all. He was kind-hearted with a wicked sense of humour and would amuse everyone with his incredible ability to tell a story. Love of music would follow him through his life. He could play several instruments, including the guitar, accordion, and fiddle. He even learned to play the banjo in his eighties earning him the nickname of Banjo Grandpa.

Special thanks to Dr. Isadore Segers, his receptionist Jackie and the staff and volunteers of the Hospice house for their kindness, caring and making Gordon

Dad,it's been a very difficult month without you. I'm so relieved you have no more pain but there isn't a day goes by I don't think of you and miss you so much. I was planting the flower bed thinking you would be sitting on your chair making sure I was doing it right. I missed that this year. Mom is doing okay. I am moving in with her like you asked me too, so you don't have to worry about her. RIP Dad. Love you with all my heart. Love your daughter.

We were fortunate to be friends with Gordon for forty years, lots of fun times with him and Nonie, golfing, camping, playing cards and laughing, lots of laughing. We will miss him.
