Obituaries

Edward William Strome passed away peacefully on April 5, 2018 at the age of 91 in Vernon, BC. Ed was born on January 31, 1927 to Joseph and Rosa (Menz) Strome on their homestead near Muenster, SK. He was the oldest of four children and loved helping his dad with many of the chores on the farm. A trip to Germany at the age of 26 to visit relatives resulted in dad finding his true love, Agnes. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in October. Ed started out farming, but soon found a passion for woodworking. In 1963, after 9 years farming, they moved the family to Humboldt where he became a full-time finishing carpenter. He loved taking his family on fishing and camping trips. In 1973, they moved to Red Deer where home construction was booming. In 1986, Ed and Agnes retired in the Shuswap area near Sorrento BC. Retirement life saw him venture into skiing, par-3 golfing, square dancing, travel, playing the accordion, and a hobby of turning wood on a lathe. Ed created beautiful vases, bowls, picture frames, and toys. In 2007, Ed and Agnes moved to Vernon BC. He is survived by his loving wife Agnes (Schuetz) and their five children, Mervin (Diane) of Calgary, AB; Anita Gamble (Jim) of Kelowna, BC; Perry (Kathie) of Red Deer, AB; Robert of Red Deer, AB; Michael (Heidi) of Calgary, AB; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marcella Berchiminsky of Watson, SK; sister- in- law Yvonne Strome of Humboldt, SK; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rosa Strome; brothers, Arnold Strome and Bernard Strome; brother-in-law Nick Berchiminsky; sister-in-law Rita Strome; nephews, Vernon Berchiminsky and Rodney Strome. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many caregivers and nurses at The Hamlets and Gateby Care Centres. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Church, 10102 Middleton Dr., Coldstream, BC on April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. To view Ed
