SIMPSON, Richard Larke

SIMPSON, Richard Larke

Hello everyone.

It is with sadness that Kelly and I announce that on February 2nd, 2019, Richard Larke Simpson, born Dec 4th, 1944 known to his friends as Rick, passed away peacefully at the age of 74 after courageously battling cancer.
He is survived by his partner of over fifteen years Gael Russell, his son Richard Kemp Simpson, his daughter Kelly Suzanne Simpson, the mother of his children Grace Bartel, his brother Jeffery Simpson and his sister Victoria Nuttall.

Rick had an intense and infectious passion for the outdoors. For over thirty years, his primary pursuits were focused on improving fish habitat, building up strong fish populations and passing on his passion and knowledge to the next generation of young outdoor enthusiasts. He loved working with groups of children during many community events and often described the joy he felt as they learned something new about fish biology or habitat. Rick had faith in his community and loved connecting with other conservationists and families at the clubs and organizations he was actively involved with in British Columbia.

Rick was especially proud of his work with many First Nations groups over the years and had his own personal universal vision that incorporated a beautiful blending of western and First Nations beliefs.

Rick was an avid dog lover and would never pass one by without stopping and paying a visit.

The Simpson family would like to pass along our sincere thanks to the doctors and entire team on Floor 4B at Kelowna General Hospital for their selfless dedication, love and genuine care of our father throughout his battle.

He will be deeply missed as he now walks the mountains and paddles the waters with the creator.

May he rest in peace.

Goodbye Dad.

Kelly & Richard

I have had the pleasure to know and work with Rick over the past decade. His passion, commitment and contribution to conservation is unsurpassed. Rick was a passionate fisherman, activist for fish habitat, and a great guy to spend a day on the water with. It is a privilege and honour to have know the brilliant and dedicated conservationist Rick Simpson, he will be sadly missed.

Very sorry to see that Rick has passed away. I participated at many meetings and events with Rick there, he was a true gentleman and he never had a harsh word to say about anyone. He always had a positive attitude and constructive approach to any issues that were on the table. When I stand on the new fishing pier in Peachland I think of the tremendous contribution that Rick has made to the Outdoor Community in the Okanagan and elsewhere.

Tight lines for Rick and Fishing Forever.

Rick was an inspiration because of his passion for nature and his willingness to share knowledge. He taught me about communicating what you know and connecting with people through warm conversations. I am so fortunate to have been able to spend many hours talking and sharing with our "Champion of Nature."

So sadly missed by your fellow-in-fish-conservation,
