It is with much sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marjory Simla (nee Olechow) Dec 29, 1926 - May 23,2023. She lived a full life of 96 years and passed away peacefully in her sleep at Sun Pointe Village care home in Kelowna BC. She was predeceased by her dear husband Walter (1985), eldest daughter Sandra (2022) brother Fred (2019), and her parents John & Mary Olechow.
She is survived by her sons Larry(Wendy), Jeffrey (Brenda), daughter Deborah (Dan) and her eight grandchildren - Craig(Charmaine), Michael, Carly(Sheldon), Kayla(Zac), Kalendi(Danilo), Lila(Charlie), Billy(Katy), Melody(Bruno) and her 9 great grandchildren, Nichole, Matthias, Bianca, Emma, Samuel, Norah, Atticus, Hudson and Amelia. As well, her sister Veronica Kubik, sister-in-law Marie Olechow and many loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Born in Coalhurst Alberta, she settled in Kelowna in 1946 with her new husband to begin their lives on an orchard in the Latta Rd. area and raise a family. As a woman of strong faith, she became active in the Catholics Women's League and served faithfully for 60 years, volunteering her time and resources happily. She took great pleasure in helping and caring for others when she was able. She enjoyed her country music, baking, and helping with her grandchildren when they were young. When her oldest daughter Sandra moved to Costa Rica in 1971, this opened up her world as she traveled there frequently to enjoy time with her grandchildren. Right up until about a month ago she was still able to beat her sons at cribbage, the card game she loved to play with a competitive edge and rarely missed a point!
Her unwavering spirit and her memory lives on through her three children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love, dedication, and service to others. A small family gathering will be held later this Summer to Celebrate Mom’s life. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Walter at St. Theresa’s Cemetery.
We thank the caregivers, nurses, and friends at Sun Pointe Village who took such great care of Mom these past 13 years, especially into her final days. Thank you as well to Dr Schriemer who compassionately handled her end of life care. God bless you all!
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
