SHIER, Marilyn Josephine (nee Portman)

SHIER, Marilyn Josephine (nee Portman)

Marilyn Josephine Shier, (nee Portman), age 83 of Vernon, British Columbia, passed away on January 6, 2023, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born on March 20, 1939, to Ernest and Eunice Portman in Kamloops, British Columbia. After graduating high school, Marilyn married Ken Shier and went on to have four children: Belinda, Randy, Renee and Tracy.

Marilyn loved her family, Christmas, gardening, her yearly trips to the foothills of Yuma, Arizona, animals and especially her many dogs. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at Royal Jubilee Hospital and the Schubert Centre in Vernon. She instilled in her children fierce independence, a sense of adventure, humour, a love of animals and the outdoors. Marilyn had a smile that could light up any room. She was always excited about a new adventure, she looked out for her loved ones, stayed very close to her siblings, and her many girlfriends, and remained gracious even in death.

Marilyn was predeceased by her daughter Tracy, her parents, Ernest and Eunice Portman, her brother Fred Portman, and her grandson Dustin Seiker. She is survived by her husband Ken Shier, siblings Loraine Mortensen (Bob Mortensen), and Brian Portman (Cathy Portman), sister-in-law Ellen Portman (Fred Portman); her children, Belinda Seiker (Douglas Seiker), Randy Shier (Candice Shier), Renee Shier (Linda Williams) (Peter Hirschmiller), her grandchildren, (Amanda, Ashlee, Ryan, Jordan, Samantha and Maegan; her great-grandchildren, Cailley, Mckenna, Landon, Jaxson, Hudson, and Isla; as well as her many nieces, nephews.
