SANDBERG, Donald H.

SANDBERG, Donald H.

May 22, 1932 - May 16, 2017

Donald (Donnie) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family whom he loved and cherished deeply. Devotion to his family was the most important aspect of his life. He leaves behind his loving wife Barbara of 61 years, children: Sharon (Jerry), Dan (Jo-Ann), Jo-Ann (Daryl) and David. Grandchildren: Chris (Sam), Jeffrey, Melanie (Hugh), Jason (Heather), Debra, Donnie (Amanda) and Adam (Hilary). Great grandchildren: Tulia, Claire, Duncan and Caelynn. Also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ken and Audrey Leier and his sister-in-law Marge Leier as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents Otto and Minerva, infant son Peter, siblings Roy, Irene, Esther and Teenie.

Don was a kind, loyal and loving husband, father, brother, grampa, great grampa and a friend to many.

He loved the outdoors, spending a great many years in it from a teenager on in the logging industry and prospecting and the latter part of his working days as a plumber. He loved camping, fishing, hunting and of course never missed an opportunity to stop and check out a rock he wanted to inspect.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 24th at the Salvation Army Church - 1480 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna - with a tea to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Research or a charity of your choice.

I am going to miss my friend of the last 25 years. I don't have to tell you that Don was very proud of all of his family and friends. Yesterdays service was a beautiful way to remember him. Thank-you for that special time. Wishing everyone strength and health going forward. Jeff Austin

Our family has definitely lost a great man I was lucky to call my Uncle. So many memories and happy times spent around campfires or family gatherings. Uncle Donnie always had wise words or funny stories or something interesting to talk about.

He will surely be missed but I'm sure he's catching up and having some laughs with those he cared about who have already passed. Thinking of you Aunty Barb and family, you all were everything to him. He was so lucky to have you all around him especially the past few months

    To Barbara and family,

I met you on the eve of your grandson Adam's wedding to my daughter, Hilary and immediately felt the depth of your family's love. A love rooted in the strength and support from you, Barbara, and Don. I was in awe and so grateful for my daughter to be welcomed into your fold. What a joy it was to meet Don, such sunny smiling eyes! A true loving and gentle man. And he was so kind to my Mum, Eunice West at the wedding the next day. Please know I've been thinking of you all during this hard time when the cycle of life shows itself. Don can now rest. He'll always be with you...maybe when you spot an incredibly beautiful rock, captured by the shine of the sun on it...he will be there.

    Love, Ms. Terry Giblin
