Condolence Messages

Hi Patti, my husband and I played co-ed hockey with Mike a few years ago. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. He was truly one of the nicest people we have ever met.... and would like to share some hockey thoughts with you.
I can still see his legs just-a-movin' to back check and try to help out his goalie (me). I was always glad to have Mike on my team, because even if he wasn't the best player out there....he always gave 110%!! I fondly recall getting off the ice with him after a game, with sweat dripping off his nose, and he had the biggest smile on his face.
Keith and I both cherish the memories we have of playing with 'Big Mike' (we had 3 Mikes on the team, so he was Big Mike). He always had a kind word of encouragement for his teammates, and he made the game fun.
We are so very saddened for your family's loss of such a great guy. I spoke with my good friend Dee Armitage last week, and she tells me that you are a remarkable wife and mum. Westbank is such a small world!
Kind thoughts to you and your family,
Sincerely, Keith Deglow/Sue Panov in Summerland.

I worked with Mike in EP when he first joined the mining group. He was knowledgeable and dedicated. I really appreciated his humour and openness. He will be missed very much in MOE.

Patti, Hannah and Morgan we are so sorry for your sudden loss. Mike was a great rowing coach at the Kelowna Rowing Club through the early 90's. He was such a wealth of knowledge to Warren and I as we took our turns running and coaching the club. He knew just how to "pitch the oars". Races in Seattle, Victoria and Lake Country were so much fun with him around. We will be thinking of your family.

So sad and shocked to hear of Mike's death. I rowed with him in the Canadian four for the World U23 championships in Hamburg, West Germany (at the time), where we won a silver medal. I roomed with Mike for part of the trip and we later rowed at the University of Victoria together. I enjoyed taking crews from a club I ran in North Vancouver to Kelowna to race in regattas he put on, partly because it was always just so nice to see Mike again. I always regarded him with great affection and respect.

Patti, Hannah and Morgan - so sorry for your loss, our hearts go out to you. Mike was a great soccer coach to Aimee, whom she credits for a lot of her continued success on the field. Such a great and fair man. He will be sorely missed. Keep your memories close to your heart, it is a difficult path ahead but take solace in knowing he will always watch over you and keep you safe.

It saddened our family to hear of Mike's passing. He was such a kind man. When we moved here 11 years ago your family was so good to us picking up Morgan for early morning hockey. I remember Mike always commenting on my rose bush. He was the kind of person who stopped to smell the roses. He will be greatly missed by all. Our family sends out prayers and love to your family. If you need anything please call.

So sad to hear of your loss. Coach Mike coached me at OUC in the 90's and took a bunch of non rowers and turned them into a respectable team. The craftsmanship he showed in his boat building was outstanding. My condolences.

Sad to see of 'Coach' Mike's passing at far too young an age. Mike took myself and a band of other young inexperienced rowers at OUC early '90s and coached us into a formidable winning team touring the province and competing from Elk Lk to the Thomson R. while competing himself as well. His patience, knowledge and athleticism was outstanding. Very sorry for your loss, God bless. Mike Geddes.

Dear Patti, Hannah, and Morgan. We were saddened to hear the news about Mike. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We have many fond memories of Mike. We remember his gentle demeanour and kindness. We admired his passion for his family, sports, and fishing. One of fondest memories was camping with the Mclean's near Nakusp. Mike had taken all the kids out fishing. While out on the lake an eagle came down out of the sky and stole the fish off William's fishing rod. We laughed for hours about this. May the days ahead be filled with love and laughter for the values Mike stood for. Greg and William Corry - Shanghai, China

I remember when Mike first came to Kelowna and the Kelowna Rowing Club in the late 1980's. I was new to rowing and he gave me several sculling lessons.
We rowed in a competition the length of Wood Lake one year but the instructor beat the student.
He was a very quiet and soft spoken but offered me a lot of good advice.
