PURVIS, Jack

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Jack Purvis on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017 at Kelowna General Hospital. Jack fought bravely, but ultimately succumbed to his battle with COPD & CHD.

Jack was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Over the years he would often reminisce about his Brandon paper route, (through deep snow and 40 below temperatures!). He spent the summers of his youth at Clear Lake, a place he always loved and where he ran the local roller rink.

Jack graduated from the University of Brandon and shortly there after met a young nurse who assisted in the birth of his niece, Marilyn. He didn't know it at the time, but that young nurse would eventually become the love of this life! Jack and Enid were married in Flin Flon, Manitoba in 1956.

Jack began his mining career with HBM&S in Flin Flon, Manitoba, moving to the company's Head Office in Winnipeg during the 1950's, eventually settling his family in Toronto after opening the Toronto Branch in the 1960's. He enjoyed many years of traveling with Enid, Dee and John. They explored Canada coast-to-coast and parts of Europe during the 1970's. The family trips made for beautiful and lasting memories.

Happily married to his loving wife Enid for 60 years, Jack retired as the Vice President of Sales for HBM&S after 35 successful years with the firm. Jack traveled extensively during his career, establishing and maintaining critical relationships within the global mining community for his employer.
Jack was an avid golfer and President of the Donalda Golf and Country Club in Toronto. After retirement, Jack and Enid relocated to Kelowna, BC. where he enjoyed golfing at the Okanagan Golf Club.

The past several years also included playing bridge, attending the symphony and reading his favorite books. Throughout the years Jack and Enid have hosted many festive gatherings of family and friends to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Jack loved these parties, especially being surrounded by the people he loved.

Jack is survived by his wife Enid, (nee Archer), and children Deidre, John, and John's wife Nadia, as well as his four grandchildren Ryan and Sean Gray, Adam and Dana Purvis. He is also survived by his nieces Marilyn, Carol and Sara and nephew Paul, as well as Jack's sister-in-law Bobby and her husband Ted.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Grant Chamberlain and his staff, the staff at Dyck's Pharmacy and Dr. Graeme McCauley. We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Cottonwoods, 4B at KGH and Kim Froom who went above and beyond and always brightened his days.

A kind and loving husband and father, Jack never failed to lend his support to assist a family member or friend in need. The example he set for us will never be forgotten. The love he shared with his family and friends is only outweighed by the loving memories we will all carry with us, forever.

You're a wonderful person, Jack Purvis and you will be dearly missed by all who knew you.

Dear Dee and Family,

So sorry to hear about your Dad's passing, he was a very kind man and I am glad we were able to share a few glasses of wine with him and hear some of his stories on his visits to Cranley Drive.

Dear Enid:

I wish to convey to you my heart felt sympathy for the loss of Jack, your life long partner. In the few times that he and I spent together, I felt very connected to Jack. He was a true gentleman and made every effort to make me comfortable. In our solving 'the problems' of the world we of course had everything fixed..... except for the next golf shot..... which we usually failed to negotiate to our satisfaction.

I enjoyed meeting you, and it is indeed a pleasure and honour to have experienced both of you you in my life...... thank you.
