Funeral Homes Submit ObituaryPHILPOTT, Hilda Gertrude "Trudy"
October 15, 1935 – November 23, 2024
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Trudy Philpott, age 89, on November 23, 2024 at Kelowna General Hospital, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer.
Trudy was predeceased by her parents: Alfons & Kathleen (née Sired) Wittur of Black Mountain; two of her brothers: Ray Wittur and Richard Wittur; brother-in-law Jim Chatten and sister-in-law Marilyn Wittur. Her surviving siblings are: Glen Wittur (Pat), Gordon Wittur (Loretta), Rosalie Chatten, and Laurie Hood (Gordon), plus sister-in-law Linda Wittur.
Trudy is survived by her five daughters: Cathy Philpott, Sherry Philpott-Adhikary, Jean Philpott (Ross), Ronda Fredrick (Doug), and Karen Ouwendyk (Peter); plus grandchildren: Kevin Villar (Josalyn), Carla Villar McIntosh (Jordan), Alexandra Adhikary, Andrew Fredrick, Brian Fredrick, Steven Fredrick, Jarod Ouwendyk (Nicole), and Adrianna Ouwendyk; also two great-grandchildren: Kaden and Kylie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Born October 15, 1935 in Penticton, Trudy spent her early years in Penticton and Naramata, eventually moving to the farm in Black Mountain. She met Ronald Philpott, a logger of Joe Rich and they married on November 29, 1952 in Kelowna. Unfortunately, Trudy was widowed at 50 and has always said her daughters were a blessing, giving her a reason to go on living. In early years, Trudy was an active homemaker, often sewing matching outfits for her girls.
Trudy loved all her family and community, keeping in regular touch with everyone by phone and Facebook. Each year, she organized the family Christmas reunion party, so all the extended family could get together in a hall for a potluck meal and catch-up over the holidays. As one of her last acts of love, she organized the party for this year.
Recently, Trudy told us that this was her 72nd year living in Joe Rich, at the old Philpott homestead. She and Ron moved to Philpott Road right after they married, then into the original homestead a couple of years later. She loved to sit at the kitchen window watching the birds and other animals. Her home was her happy place where she welcomed friends and family alike for tea, baking, and a good chat. She will be missed by many.
Cremation arrangements are through Springfield Funeral Services in Kelowna. A Celebration of Life will be held later in 2025 with interment of her ashes with Ron at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
Condolences, photos, and memories may be sent to the family by visiting her obituary page at www.springfieldfuneralhome.com/obituaries/philpott-trudy

To all of Trudy's family, we are shocked and saddened to hear that she has passed on. Ron and Trudy were our "next" door neighbors on Philpott Road for the 31 years that we lived there. Trudy was a kind, always happy and most positive person that I know. She always asked about the family and was genuinely interested in what they were up to. Trudy started the Philpott Road ladies luncheons that were so much fun that continued on for quite some time. Even after I moved to town, she would also include me in those luncheons.
She lived life to the fullest, as you all do as a family. I am facebook friends with some of the family and get to see and share your FUN family get togethers. You all make an event out of each special day and your Mom was always the center of the occasion. She will be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to know her and call her a friend. May all your wonderful memories (and you have so many !!!) bring you some comfort at this most difficult time.
Sending all our love and condolences to you.

Cathy, Sherry, Jean, Ronda, Karen and all your families as well as my sibs and families. Trudy was my dear sister and best friend. She was ten when I was born after four brothers and was very excited to finally have a baby sister and she proudly took me out to show off her baby sister. I think this is where our bond began. As we both grew older this bond did not weaken but became stronger. I will miss her frequent phone calls and in these conversations she also let me know the latest news of all the family, Trudy was a great comfort to me when Jim passed.
While I am devastated at losing her - Rosalie Chatten - Nov 30, 2024

Cathy, Sherry, Jean, Ronda, Karen and all your families as well as my sibs and families and my family I am so very sorry.
Trudy was ten when I was born after four brothers and she was very excited to finally have a baby sister. (She relayed this to me often over the years). She adored me and proudly took me out to show off her baby sister. I think this is where our bond began. As we both grew older this bond did not weaken but became stronger. I will miss her frequent phone calls to chat and she filled me in on all the family. Trudy was a great comfort to me when Jim passed.
I am so very sad and sorry to lose Trudy but I know she is at peace and not suffering. I will forever love and miss her as will all of her family and friends and I will think of her often with love. - Rosalie Chatten - Nov 30, 2024

"TRUDY PHILPOTT" our dear friend for over 44 years.
