NG, Kui Wah Gongon

NG, Kui Wah Gongon

September 4, 1928 – November 12, 2022

Kui passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 12, 2022. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Nu Au, and daughter, Woon-Hing Manning. He will be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Faye Manning, and many close friends and extended family in Canada and Hong Kong.

Kui was born in Canton, China and moved to Hong Kong at the age of 17. He worked as a Chinese chef in kitchens all around the world, in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. He moved to Vietnam for work, where he met his wife and his daughter was born. He returned to Hong Kong with his family in 1969 and immigrated to Canada in 1995.

In Hong Kong, Kui loved motorcycles and would often go riding with friends. In Canada, Kui went to the Parkinson Recreation Centre to exercise in the gym and pool every weekday and attended church on the weekends. He was also a respected member of the Chinese Freemasons of Canada and the Seven Seas Dragon & Lion Dancers groups. He made friends everywhere he went and charmed them with his warm smile, terrific cooking, and kung fu moves.

The family thanks the staff at the Kelowna General Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Kui during his stay there, as well as the Okanagan Chinese Baptist Church for their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Okanagan Chinese Baptist Church, ocbckelowna.org/v2.

A Service will be held on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2022, at 9:00 AM, at the OKANAGAN CHINESE BAPTIST CHURCH (1025 Rutland Rd. N., Kelowna, BC).

    Dear Faye & Family,

We had the privilege of knowing your grandfather through the Parkinson Rec Centre. For many years our times there were often enriched by seeing his lovely smile and also being encouraged by his steadfast spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. He was a very dear man. Your tribute to him is so honouring.

    Kindest regards,

Our deepest sympathies to the Ng family. At his age, he amazed us with his daily routine moves at the Parkinson pool, so agile for a man his age. He was a charming kind man with a warm smile. Going to the pool and gym everyday, one can say he died healthy. We will miss him.
