Funeral Homes Submit ObituaryNEU, Daniel

April 26, 1952 - October 11, 2021
Dan Neu passed away on Oct 11, 2021, in his home, surrounded by the sounds of his loved ones visiting, laughing, and praying. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Joanne; 5 children: Tereasa, Mary-Jo, Nick, Jen and Darcy; 4 grandchildren and the best dog in the world, Birdie.
Dan will be remembered for his quick wit, garage saling, flirting with the ladies, varied interests, quiet faith, and love of family gatherings.
Dan lived and worked for over 40 years in the Armstrong area. He enjoyed helping with various clubs that he and his children were involved in and having coffee in the mornings at Shepherds with the guys as they all started the workday.
Some of his best stories were about experiences while sled dog racing with his wife, son and daughters. Losing his sled dog team at a practice run in Telkwa; Jen MacGyvering the spray bottle out the window because the windshield wipers quit; having the dog truck breakdown in a stranger’s driveway in the middle of the night; having competitive teams to race with his son; the dogs that really touched his heart; and the incredible friends that were made during that time are only a few.
Dogsledding gave way to road trips and a love of photography. Dan had an incredible mind and enjoyed learning all he could about his cameras and the art of photography. Road trips with his wife and daughter Darcy were highlights. He loved the Oregon Coast, the Palouse area in Washington, and the Yukon. A special memory was watching a ball game in the mud and then eating muktuk in a home in Tuktoyaktuk. a few years ago.
Road trips gave way to classic car cruises with his son and a new interest, owning and driving his Corvair. Great times were spent with his son and daughter-in-law fixing up the Corvair and getting it ready for the next adventure.
Life was not without a few mishaps. Driving 300 kilometers down the Dempster Hwy with a trailer that had a broken axle and having a standoff with a grizzly bear in the Bella Coola area were a couple of his most recent.
Dan’s time here seemed too short, but he will be remembered with love and appreciation. Dan was a man of few words, who loved family gatherings; especially wiener roasts surrounded by family and friends.
A life well lived deserves to be celebrated. We are so grateful to now have the ability to gather to honour the life of Dan Neu. Please join us at the family home at 5271 Pyott Road on Saturday, October 1st from 12:30pm onward for Dan's favourite gathering: a wiener roast. Bring your lawn chair and favourite stories. All are welcome to attend the funeral mass at 11am at the Carmel of St. Joseph, 4815 Salmon River Road followed by a ceremony at Hullcar Cemetery at 12pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

To joanne and all dan's family. Sorry for your loss. Jesse Stubbs. - Oct 19, 2021
I worked with Dan at the Vernon Hospital expansion in the early 80's and later with Maddocks Construction on several occasions. Always pleasant and always shared a laugh or two. A good guy. RIP. Graydon Brown. - Oct 19, 2021
So sad to see this. My husband and I met Dan through the Vernon Photography Club. He organized a few photo outings that took me to places I might never had seen and told us of others to explore. He had a wonderful smile. I worked with his daughter Thereasa and we joked about the fact that he rarely showed his photos to members of the club unless it was to help them with the process. I can imagine they show his love of nature. My condolences to the family. You have lost a special man.
