Dwayne Eric Nelson was born August 29, 1957.

He passed away October 15, 2021. Left with his memories are his mother Irene Nelson, his siblings Corinne Griffin (Dave), Jack (Peggy), Donavon (Dianna), Gerard (Brenda), Greg (Pam), Barb Westhaver (Ken), Phil (Jodie) as well as more than a dozen nieces and nephews! He was predeceased by his father Gordon Nelson.

Dwayne grew up in Swift Current, SK. After high school he made his way to British Columbia, a province that he loved. It was there that he had a thirty year career with B.C. Tel/Telus as a lineman and fibre optic cable splicer. He was one of the first fibre optic cable splicers in the city of Vancouver. He had some exciting stories to tell of his work in the underground manholes of Vancouver! Dwayne loved his job and took great pride in his work.

But! Dwayne loved the action of life! As a kid he participated in judo, played ball, and hockey, often with his father as his coach.

He rode a unicycle. Later in life it became his mode of transportation to work.

He rode a bicycle, also as a mode of transportation to work, but the highlight of biking was a solo trip of the Cabot trail one summer.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and organized several fishing trips for family and friends to Nootka sound B.C.

He was a marathon runner. The highlight of this pursuit was the San Francisco marathon where he placed in the top twenty five percent of runners.

And he skied, played hockey, golfed, curled and was also a sea faring captain, as well he always found time if someone needed a helping hand.

Below what seemed like a gruff exterior was a heart of gold. This was certainly witnessed by his nieces and nephews trying to find their way in the world.

Dwayne’s friends meant the world to him. Whether it was the “senators” coffee group, or friends he met through a very interesting life of work, travel, or just having fun!

If there are any words to describe Dwayne I believe we have to look at what Frank Sinatra wrote. “And to think I did all that, And may I say not in a shy way, NO, No not me, I did it my way!”

Many thanks to Dr. Bosma and the wonderful staff on 2E at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. They treated Dwayne and his family with compassion and great care.
On Dwayne's request there will be no celebration of life.

  We are so sorry to hear of Dwaynes passing. We have such fond memories of the crazy times at the Falkland Rodeo parade and the Vernon winter Carnival parade where Dwayne and all the Nelson crew and friends...Clowns on unicycles included our kids and made them so welcome to take part in the parades. Our sincere condolences to all of Dwaynes family. The Dinwoodie family.

  Sorry to hear of Dwaynes passing. He worked for me for a number of years on the fibre crew. He was a skilled craftsmen who liked to work alone but always helped me to understand the craft.Characters are the spice of life and Dwayne lived that. My condolences to his family.   My day will be a little dimmer after reading this. Although I haven't run across Dwayne in a number of years, my memories of partying and playing softball with him (and Greg, Gerard and Thacker) in our Vancouver days will be with me forever. Who remembers "The Wizard"? Good times, indeed. A life well lived by a great guy. My condolences to his family. RIP buddy! - Rob Wannop (Kelowna)
