UPDATED VIEWING INFO - MOTSCHKO, Frank David

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

Frank Motscho was born December 26, 1955, in Kelowna, BC at the Kelowna General Hospital, and passed away on October 14, 2021, in Kelowna, BC at the Kelowna General Hospital.

Having grown up in Kelowna, Frank had lots of connections locally and plenty of stories to tell. He was always stubborn, persistent, curious, adventurous and didn’t want to live by anybody else’s rules - traits that stayed with him throughout his life. He started out as a tree faller in Revelstoke, BC and Ucluelet, BC. After motorcycle related injuries, he turned to machining full time, and was a perfectionist and innovator in his work. Frank was passionate about motorcycles and road trips, especially to the desert, the Bonneville Salt Flats and Sturgis. For years, he was involved with A.I.M. (Association for Injured Motorcyclists). He was also the co-owner of the motorcycle shop Linedance Cycle, and later owner of Performance Cycle Engineering (and could often be heard blasting tunes). Health issues eventually led to the closure of his shop. He continued to ride his bicycle and to work on his motorcycles, and he would often go to motorcycle coffee meets and on the motorcycle SOHC4 forums. He could always be found at Starbucks talking to everybody, and if not, at McDonald’s – but never at Tim Horton’s. Frank was very outgoing and made friends with everyone. Lastly, he was also very proud of his beard and at times, being mistaken for Santa Claus.

Married in 1994 to Sabine Pokropp, and they had twins in 1997, daughter Julia and son Vincent Pokropp-Motschko.

Predeceased by father Alfred Motschko and brother Mike Motschko, Frank is survived by wife Sabine Pokropp; children Julia and Vincent Pokropp-Motschko; mother-in-law Ilse Pokropp; mother Gertraud Motschko; siblings Gabriela Liberty (Barry), Wayne Motschko, Debby Horn, Karin Motschko (Bryan), and Carla Motschko; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frankie, you will always be in our hearts and memories.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the BC Lung Association, bc.lung.ca.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2021, WE WILL HOLD A CELEBRATION OF LIFE AT AN EVENT FARM ON 4490 ANDERSON ROAD, BETWEEN 11:30AM – 4:30PM. We invite all who wish to pay their respects to come by. It will be outside, with tents in case there is any rain. Covid-19 rules apply: must be double vaccinated and bring proof, 50 people at a time. In an effort to space out visits to keep under 50 people, please fill in a slot on this Google Docs sheet, if possible (around one hour unless numbers permit for longer; we need to keep count at the gate).

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gTwE8cKQEWluDvSjT2s-2bm_qpR-jXJ2fxfKM06hJfU/edit?usp=sharing (easier on the computer, on the phone you may need the app. Also, easier if you have Gmail. You may be able to add a comment in from the top right chat bubble-looking icon if you are not able to edit) You can also text 778-363-7223 (or call if you can’t text, but text preferred).

Next year sometime, we will scatter some of Frank’s ashes in Bonneville, and we invite friends of Frank’s to ride along. We would also like to do the same in the Okanagan, riding towards the border. More details to come.

Sorry to hear this and very sad. I didn’t know him long but I had a shop in Glenmore beside his. I would see him a couple times a week and he always had a good old motorcycle story to tell. He will be missed.

Offering my sincerest condolences to Franks family. Frank was definately one of a kind! He was so proud of his motorcycle and parts collections and it amazed me how he could recall a story about and how he aquired every single piece. In the short time I knew him I got to appreciate his knowledge and enjoyed his company. Rest in peace Frank.

Frank sparked my interest in machining when I was in high school, and working on motorcycles and cars. It would later become my profession as well. I'll never forget Frank and my brother and I doing burn-outs on our motorcycles in my friend Matt's bodyshop paint booth. We had some good fun- Frank was one of a kind! He will be missed by many-

We’d have many laughs about a lot of those rides when reminiscing . Joan loved him because he was such a respectful friend. We’re going to miss him greatly. Ride on forever old buddy, ride on ! Condolences to the Motschko family.

I have fond memories of Frank as a kid in the 1960's. My brother and I would ride our bicycles to the Motschko's home on Burtch Road in the Five Bridges area (now Landmark area). We would fish with Frank and his brother Mike for trout in the irrigation ditch that ran through their yard and the fields across the road. We would also watch the massive kokanee run in Mill Creek behind Shady Rest Fish and Chips.

Frank was always the one with a big grin on his face, even when we pulled pranks that got us into trouble.

Frank, you are gone much too soon.

    Bernie Kaplun.

I went to school with Frank and his brother. Elementary and on. Always crossed paths with him over the years. He was a good guy. We always had interesting conversations, to say the least. He was definitely a castanet fixture. Knew so much about the history of kelowna. I will miss him very much. Good by my friend.
