Peter Lawrence “Larry” Matthews passed away suddenly at his home in West Kelowna on June 18, 2019.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; his children, Denise (Arnie), Patty, Michelle, Jack (Jane), Polly (Kevin), Peter (Debbie), Nicky (Radar), and Greg (Bobbi Jo); his grandchildren, Leah (Mike), Matthew, Andrea (Andrew), Elizabeth, Edward, Brendan, Annie, Ashley, Jake, Delaney, Keisha (Nathan), and Brody (Diana); and his great grandchildren, Fletcher, Benjamin, Everly, Ophelia, Arianna, and Elena.

Larry is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Agnes, his sister, Lucille, and his brother, Edward “Jack”.

Larry was born in 1934 in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. His family moved to Vancouver when he was a young boy. Larry married his neighbour and high school sweetheart, Betty, in 1956. Together, they raised their eight children. In 1980, they moved their family to Calgary where they spent the next 22 years. Larry and Betty later moved to West Kelowna in 2003, where they have resided since. Everyone who knew Larry knew he loved his horses, his cigars, and the company of good friends.

Prayers will be held on Monday, June 24 at 7:30pm, and the funeral mass will be on Tuesday, June 25 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2547 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, 2547 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC V4T 2J6.

    I met Larry 14 years ago and enjoyed many afternoons with him discussing thoroughbred racing, hockey, football and politics. He was an easygoing guy and fun to be with. My condolences to Larrys family during this time of grief and great loss. Bruce M.
