MASON, Mary Meta

MASON, Mary Meta

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Meta Mason, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on February 6, 2021. She left us while sleeping peacefully at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, British Columbia. She was only 6 months from reaching her 100th birthday.

Born near Bendoorah, in the district of Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, she came to Canada at the age of seven with her sister Joan, and mother Sadie Patton (nee Clyde) where they joined her father Samuel, and resided on a farm near Hanna, Alberta. While there, her younger brother John was born. In the late forties, she met George Mason, her loving husband for more than fifty years. They moved to Edmonton, Alberta, had three children, and remained there until they closed their business and moved to Abbotsford, British Columbia.

She was the beloved mother of Douglas (Ann), Gerald (Veronica) (Glenda), and Samuel Brent (Susan) (Barbara), proud grandmother of Ryan (Shelbie), Jared (Tanya), Nancy (Rob), Gregory (Salma), Lauren (Russ), Luke, Joelle, Christy, and Paulina, and loving great grandmother to Samara, Sloane, Nora, Brennen, Georgia, Sabrina, Isaac, and Gavin.

Predeceased by her devoted husband George, her brother John, her eldest son Douglas, and her daughter-in-law Barbara.

“Nana" (Meta) was affectionately known by her family and friends as a kind and giving person. She raised her three boys with kindness and extended to them a heart of giving and forgiving. Nana's heartfelt faith in the Lord was always a strong foundation in her attitude and actions. As her boys married and had their own families, Nana extended her heart and arms of love to each one of their families.

One of the great highlights for Nana was "Mommy's Place," This was an antique and collectibles business store that Nana and her husband George opened and shared together as a post-retirement project.

Nana had the time and a listening ear for both her church family and neighbourhood friends who would share their personal struggles or family challenges with her. Her heart of compassion and care along with a promise to pray for God's presence in each situation was a real comfort to all who shared with her.

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons, strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

An outdoor celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2021, at Kelowna, British Columbia. Details to follow.

Family members express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Menno Hospital East for providing such kind and attentive care.

Flowers and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are welcome.
