Rex was born in Oliver, B.C. on Feb 20, 1927 to parents Cyril Ernest and Uriel Beth Huntley. He died peacefully in Hospice Care at the Penticton Regional Hospital on Oct 1, 2021.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Huntley, son John Huntley, daughter Lynda Huntley, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife of 54 years, Betty Huntley, in 2002, his eldest son, Gary Huntley, in 2011, and all 5 of his siblings; Cyril, Dorothy, Donald, Doreen, and Verne.
In his youth, working on the family orchard, Rex showed an early aptitude to all things mechanical, as well as talents as a musician. These interests would shape Rex’s life pursuits.
He applied his mechanical skills working in various occupations throughout British Columbia, finally settling in North Vancouver in a career overseeing the maintenance of many buildings for the Federal Government. Rex retired from Civil Service in 1991, returning once more to his beloved Okanagan, to live in Penticton, B.C.
Away from the work place, Rex spent many hours building or renovating the family home. Rex was also involved in the community, first as a Boy Scout Leader and later as a long time member of the Lion’s Club.
Rex’s musical talents saw him playing for local dance, school and community bands. His latest gig was as a keyboard ‘one-man-band’ entertaining residents at Long Term Care facilities throughout the Okanagan.
Rex’s family will gather, at a later date, for a private internment ceremony at the Penticton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Moog and Friends Hospice House, Penticton, B.C.
