Obituaries

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Elisabeth Herbert (Karbacher) at the age of 86, on December 27, 2017. Elisabeth was born in Bad Neustadt, Germany on December 23, 1931. In 1954 she immigrated to Canada with the love of her life, her husband Paul and their two young sons Gunther and Vernon. Shortly after arriving they completed their family with a daughter, Heidi.

Mom worked in Atikokan, Ontario at the Beanery and then later at the Rockten Hotel as a very talented cook and spent many summers with her tree planting crew. Once the boys grew up and left home Elisabeth and Paul and their daughter Heidi moved to their new home in Westbank, B.C. Mom loved the Okanagan and quickly found work at Kelowna General Hospital for many years, later moving on to work at Pine Acres Care Home. Mom became famous for her beautiful rose gardens always finding another gardening project. She had a special talent for creating beautiful flower arrangements for every occasion for her many friends and loved her weekly bowling and golf dates with the girls.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Paul, and leaves behind her sons Gunther Herbert (Audrey), Vernon Herbert (Brenda), and daughter Heidi Simkins (Robert). She will be missed by her grandchildren Aaron Herbert (Trisha), Kelly Forbes (Jordan), Tyler Herbert (Monica), Jennifer Anderson (Paul), Thomas Simkins (Carly) and great grandchildren Natalie and Madison Herbert.

There will be a celebration of life with family when the spring flowers bloom.
