HANDLEY, Charles Robert (Bob)

HANDLEY, Charles Robert (Bob)

Handley, Charles, Robert (Bob), passed away on August 26th, 2019 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Bob had just recently lost his wife (Tricia) to cancer four weeks earlier.

Bob was born March 16th, 1942 in Hull, England. He emigrated with Tricia and two small children (Debbie and Garry) to Vancouver in 1967. The family enjoyed many years living in the West End and enjoying Stanley Park as their backyard. Bob was a trained Chef, and work in the restaurant industry for his entire career. He loved to play tennis on the Stanley Park courts, hangout at one of the local beaches, spending time with his family and friends. A move to Richmond was a followed by a move to Penticton in 1974 where Bob and Tricia bought a restaurant. They started to settle into the Okanagan lifestyle of boating, beaches and camping. Within the next several years, all the remaining immediate family from England also emigrated to the Okanagan. Bob eventually sold the restaurant and proceeded to manage many other restaurants in Penticton. Bob was heavily involved in the Penticton Soccer Club, where he was one of the most respected referees in the Okanagan. Just like his wife, Bob also loved to garden, and together they created many beautiful gardens. He had a passion for all sports, but his favorite was watching tennis and English Football. In 2014, Trish and Bob moved to Kelowna where they spent five years living side-by-side with their children and close family members.

Bob is survived by his two children Debbie and Garry (Heidi) and his brother Roger (Pat). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Carmen, Mathew, Mitchel, Max and Zoe and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the fantastic and caring staff at KGH and Kelowna Hospice. We are truly grateful for the care and love we received from the staff members at both facilities. We are blessed as a community to have these services and professionals available to us.

Bob has requested no public service. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.

Rest in Peace Mum and Dad.

Bob kept the game of football alive in the good old days for the OVSL when referees were few and far between in Penticton, he was a dedicated lover of the Sport.

A gentleman on and off the field.

Our thoughts are with the family at this time.
