November 6, 1954 - February 26, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Donald “Don” Hackwell of Kelowna, BC, on February 26, 2023 at the age of 68.

Don was born on November 6, 1954 in Port Alberni, BC, to his parents Walter and Wilma Hackwell. He spent his early childhood growing up on Sproat Lake with his parents and two brothers, Bob and Cal.

In 1967, Don moved to Kelowna with his family, where he made many lifelong friends and enjoyed the remainder of his life. His passions included boating, swimming, biking, camping, quadding, fishing, skiing, travelling, and spending time in the great outdoors.

Don was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, papa, and friend. He treasured the time he spent with his family and friends and embraced every moment with them.

Don will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his wife Tami; mother Wilma; brothers, Bob (Pat) & Cal (Evie); children, Barb (Jared) and Christina (Cam); grandchildren, Kayli, Meghan, Amber, Brennen and Daniel; great-grandson, Zachary; nephews, Shane, Christopher, Jordan, Justin, Shaun, Brandon, Ian, and Blair; as well as numerous family members, friends, and colleagues. Don was predeceased by his father, Walter.

Don’s positive spirit was an inspiration to many, and he will be remembered fondly by the many lives he touched.

Great guy and good neighbour when we lived on Steward Rd east.
Used his front end loader "Appels" like you and I would use a wheelbarrow around his place. Would see him upside down in his baler fixing something. Very affable and handy man always eager to help.
    My condolences to the family.

Great neighbour on steward road east. Always remember him upside down in his hay baler, feet straight up fixing something or using the front end loader from Appel"s pit like I would use a wheelbarrow on his property. Great guy, sorry to the family.

Dear Tami and family. I am so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Don on council at the Inn at Big White. He was a very wise man with such a positive spirit. He was a great problem solver, and was always willing to lend a hand to lesson the load. I enjoyed getting to know him and his family through our after meeting chats. He loved sharing stories about his family, and his eyes always lit up and a big smile would come to his face, especially when he talked about you and his kids and especially his grandkids whom he adored. He was so courageous in his battle, and I’m so sad for your loss. I know he will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Sending many blessing, and prayers at this difficult time.

I met Donnie in 2015 when I started working with him. We were at different sites so rarely saw each other but he was always so kind when we chatted. After he took his leave, he would visit us in the office and he always had such a positive outlook, despite all he was going through. I loved how he seemed to make the most of every day, skiing, biking, even renovating a home (!) over the last couple of years. His was the sweetest of souls and the kindest of hearts – I will miss him. ~ Cindy Raichuk - Cindy Raichuk
