October 29, 1959 – October 13, 2021
Regina, Saskatchewan – Kelowna, BC

Kevin Miles Greenwood of Calgary passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 61 years of age.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Kevin moved at a young age with his Family to Calgary, AB and Edmonton, AB for his father’s work. He spent those adventurous young years exploring his neighbourhood with friends, playing baseball, hockey, and freestyle skying. He was at home in the mountains. As a goalie for the Calgary Spurs, he won gold at the Wrigley tournament and represented Canada in the former Czechoslovakia.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Diane, the love of his life for 38 years. He was an amazing and supportive father to their three children, Ryan and Colin and Erin. Kevin was a proud grandpa and his 3 grandchildren’s favourite storyteller.

Kevin earned his MBA from the renowned University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business. His curiosity and drive propelled his entrepreneurial spirit, building many successful businesses that took him around the world. Recently, he enjoyed working with The National Research Council of Canada, based in Kelowna, helping to grow the businesses of other aspiring entrepreneurs. He found so much joy as a professor at the Okanagan College where he was a student favourite for his passion and engagement.

Kevin is survived by his wife Diane; children Ryan (Laura-Lynn), Colin (Julie), and Erin; grandchildren Vienne, Ellis and Jones; his parents Garth and Barbara Greenwood; brother Jim Greenwood (Nancy); sister Elizabeth Greenwood (Kevin Chinook); his brother-in-law Roger Reid-Bicknell; his niece Tracey Mooney and her family; and his many other nieces and nephews.

If friends and loved ones desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Kevin Greenwood Memorial Scholarship for Entrepreneurship, www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/65469

A Celebration of Life will be held in Calgary at a later date.

My deepest condolences to Diane and family. I had the great pleasure of working with Kevin at a startup Cloud Video company in Kelowna. Kevin was a terrific boss and moreover he was a strong mentor. He was always kind, understanding and wise. He made a huge impact on me and I’ve carried forward his teachings.
Perhaps the fondest memory was a business trip to New York where I attended my first Broadway show with Kevin and his lovely wife, before having some food in a fantastic little place in Hell’s Kitchen.

Kevin was my entrepreneurship professor at Okanagan College. He was a kind-hearted, attentive, and passionate professor who cared deeply about his students. He would generously bring us snacks on Saturday mornings when we had class with him and he captivated our attention with his stories and expertise. Kevin taught me invaluable lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I am so grateful to have met Kevin and to have been a student of his. I am deeply saddened by the news of Kevin’s passing and I extend my sincere condolences to his family.

I and (above all) my brother Alec were blessed to have Kevin as one of our closest childhood friends. He was an instigator and participant in years of joyful adventure; for decades, our family has enjoyed recounting colourful stories featuring Kevin. It is terribly sad to hear of his sudden passing but it is clear that Kevin left an indelible mark on many lives. On behalf of all the Robertsons, we send our sincere condolences to Diane, Garth and Barbara, and all of the extended Greenwood family.

We are thinking of you all at this sad time. Kevin/your Dad/Grandpa is one of the nicest, most brilliant and wittiest people we have ever known and, although we have not seen him for a few years, we still often quote him and will continue to do so. Connie and Jeff

Kevin was a member of our faculty at Okanagan College. I can't really put into words how much we appreciated having him teach with us for the short time that he did. My condolences to his family. I'm not sure if you can appreciate the impact that Kevin had on students in his courses, but we noticed. He's left a large and difficult hole to fill in our faculty and we'll miss him.
Kerry Rempel, Chair of the School of Business at Okanagan College.

    To Kevin's Family
My name is Steve Hall and I am the Director of Research Strategy and Partnerships at SKYTRAC Systems in Kelowna.
Kevin had been working with SKYTRAC in general and myself in particular since September 2019. We generally spoke at least every two-three weeks and on occasion; far more frequently. The longer you worked with Kevin, the more you gained respect for him both as a decent person and a consummate professional. His guidance as we have worked on different projects has been instrumental in the success we have realized to date.
To say that we were shocked to receive the news would be an understatement. On behalf of our President Malachi Nordine, who also got to know and respect Kevin, please accept our sincere condolences. It is not often in life that you get the opportunity to interact with the perfect gentleman; a person who in different ways contributes to your life in a positive and constructive way. Kevin was one of those perfect gentlemen and that is how I am sure many will remember him.
