So sorry to hear of Clive's passing. My deepest sympathies for the family. I first met Clive back stage at a musical production of Paint Your Wagon in 1975. He also became a colleague at Rutland Senior and we skied the Cariboo Marathon together. He was a wonderful, thoughtful man with a lovely sense of humour and always good company. He will be missed by so many. Joh McIntyre

Dear Brenda and family, Val and I are so sorry about the sudden death of Clive; you have our deepest sympathy. He was a fine man and a good friend, one of those few people who actually make the world go round. For, while many shared Clive's attitudes, opinions and enthusiasms, few of us felt compelled, as he did, to do something about them. For example, he first sampled cross-country skiing at Telemark at the same time as many of us. But it was he who realised the need to protect the ski trails from many possible encroachments; it was he who volunteered to become Telemark president, who devoted endless hours, with yourself, to creating the Telemark that we know, to pushing for more competitions, better grooming gear, increased membership, a well supported schools programme, etc, etc. That was just the way Clive was, he did something to bring about his dreams, while the rest of the world just talked and in the process, he served us all by improving the quality of our lives. At Mount Boucherie he was the very best friend and colleague, always seeking to improve the education that we offered students. He was a very good teacher who liked kids; they, for their part, liked and admired him, and they soon became caught up in his delightfully puckish enthusiasms. We will all miss Clive.

    Dear Gilbert Family,

Clive was an incredible teacher. We both had him as our math teacher at Dr. Knox while our daughter had him as a math teacher at OKM. He certainly made a big impact on our lives which we will always be grateful for. Our heartfelt condolences to the family on Clive's passing.

Clive loved teaching and it showed. His enthusiasm and energy was contagious. As Physics teachers we often chatted and shared ideas in a teamwork approach. His influence with students will live long after his passing.

Rest well my friend, your work lives on.

    Brenda and Family,

Clive was such a giving person. He loved working with young people and they loved being in his classes. He loved to coach and alway had a way with making his players feel good about their efforts in competition.

He dearly loved his family and was so proud of them. He was a man of integrity, hard work, willing to share, and aways wanting to help make the school a better place for everyone.

His wonderful family is a tribute to his love and caring.

I have such fond memories of Clive the teacher, coach, family man and gentleman.

Dear Brenda and family, please accept our heartfelt condolences on the sudden passing of Clive. We were truly saddened and shocked to hear the news. Clive was one of the most intelligent, caring and dedicated teachers at Mount Boucherie. He loved teaching and his students benefited from that. He also committed much extra time outside the classroom to coaching the school's rugby team. He was a talented and enthusiastic coach and mentor.

The many memories I have of my years teaching and coaching at Mount Boucherie always include those I taught with, Clive was one of the finest of those teachers. His gentle wit, his commitment to his students and fellow teachers was exemplary. He will be missed.

Our sincere condolences . Clive was such a well liked and excellent teacher and I was lucky to have worked with him at OKM. I am so glad I attended the retired teachers' Christmas luncheon Monday December 3 at the Coast Capri where we shared about old times ....Clive refereeing each year at the Grade 8 rugby tournaments etc. So shocked that he passed away so soon after we met there. Clive's sense of humour was again very evident as Rolli joked with him from the podium during the auction for COBSS.

    Again our sympathy,

    Robert and Elaine Corkin.

Very sorry to see this obituary today. Our deepest condolences to the Gilbert family entirely. Clive was always such a first-class pleasure to have referee our Rugby games both as player and coach. ALways such a mild-mannered yet unflinchingly professional presence on the pitch. He always brought a smile to my face as he forever reminded me of Monty Python's Michael Palin...

God bless & rest in peace,

    Mike Geddes.

    Brenda, Alison, Sally and Ross:

I was so sad to hear of Clive's passing. As many have stated already, Clive was a wonderful man. I pride myself that as a first year teacher, I recognized that I was blessed to work on a staff with 3 master teachers: Bob Passmore, Colin Castle and Clive Gilbert. When I didn't know what to do, I just took note of how they handled things and tried in any way I could, to be as good a teacher as they were. I never made it to their level but still benefited from being in their presence! Clive also showed us all that a teacher's influence isn't limited to the classroom. He led the way by being so involved in extracurricular activities and mentoring and socializing with the staff. He had a wicked sense of humour and I am smiling even now as I write this! His was a life well lived and I hope that your memories will carry you through this sad time.

So very sorry to hear of Clive's passing. He was a truly professional teacher and gentleman who positively impacted many students as he made Newton's Laws and wave property more understandable. His contributions as a rugby referee were very much appreciated as were the countless volunteer hours he offered to the cross country skiing community. Be comforted that he made a real difference to many aspects of our community.
