FRASER, Rita

FRASER, Rita

Rita Fraser (nee Murakami), 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Saanichton, BC on Sunday April 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. Rita was born on December 29, 1946 in New Denver, BC to Mickey and Betty Murakami. Rita is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bud Fraser, their two daughters, Erin (Derren) and Lauren (Dante), and two grandsons, Tyrus and Maddux. Rita is also survived by her sisters Judy and June (Allen), and her brother, Ken (Kim).

During WWII, Rita’s parents were interned in Slocan - a small community in the Kootenay region of BC. When the war ended in 1945, Rita’s family was released from the Internment Camp but were not permitted to leave the area. Later, in 1949, they were released from the area; however, Rita’s family stayed as her father had started a logging business. Rita finished high school and moved to Vancouver to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, which she practiced until she retired in 2007.

Rita loved reading, shopping, walking, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed visiting local thrift shops to find books for her grandkids and many other treasures. Rita was a kind and generous soul, one who never complained and always put others first. She was selfless and brave, right to the very end. She will be greatly missed, but will live on through her daughters and grandsons.

There will be no official service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the ALS Society of BC.
