FLECK, Anna

FLECK, Anna

It with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announced the passing of our beloved wife, mom and Oma.
Anna Fleck was born November 4, 1935 in Enschede, Holland to her parents Martinus and Anna Fidom. Anna fondly remembered growing up in Holland and was always proud of her Dutch heritage. Surviving the hardships of the German occupation and allied bombings in Holland during WW2 have always been a source of memorable storytelling to her children and grandchildren over the years.
Like so many post-war Europeans, an 18-year-old Anna and her parents boarded an immigration ship in the fall of 1954 to make the stormy trans-Atlantic journey to Quebec City Canada. After landing in Canada the family made its way to Brockville Ontario. It was here she met and married Arthur, a recent immigrant himself, and began raising a family. Anna and Arthur later moved the family to the booming city of Calgary in 1965, then on to Edmonton in 1973, and finally Kelowna in 1992. Anna loved the warm Okanagan summers and was often found sitting or working in the garden amongst the flowers and the birds.
Anna will be forever remembered as a loving, caring person who dedicated her life to her family. Home, family, friends, and making those feel welcome in her home were a source of great pride and pleasure for her. Anna is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Arthur; children Monica, Eric (Lynn), and Paul; grandchildren Michael, Christopher (Heather) and Caitlyn (Marlon); and great grandson Xavier. She will be missed by her sister Ginni Kamphuis and family in Ontario.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful and dedicated staff who provided care throughout her long and difficult journey with her illness; including those at the Cancer Centre of the Southern Interior, Vancouver General Hospital, Kelowna General Hospital, KGH Rehabilitation Unit, and Central Okanagan Hospice House. Throughout her illness and disability Anna remained positive, forward looking and hopeful while demonstrating courage, resilience, and a determination to live her life to the fullest.
Anna will be interred privately with family in attendance Saturday July 6, 2019 within Promontory Green at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association: http://hospicecoha.org/ways-to-give/make-a-donation/
