Cheryl Entwistle was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan and was lovingly raised by her parents, Bill and Alpha Entwistle, in Estevan. Cheryl had two loving sisters, Lois and Doreen. From a young age, Cheryl showed a remarkable aptitude for academics, leading her to graduate from Regina General Hospital School of Nursing in 1965.She later furthered her education at the University of Ottawa where she continued to excel.
Cheryl began her illustrious teaching career in Winnipeg before eventually joining the University of British Columbia. She held various roles including lecturer, clinical instructor and the Director of the Learning Resource Center. Her dedication to her students was evident in her teaching and mentoring, earning immense respect and admiration from both students and colleagues. Cheryl’s commitment to education and her students let a lasting impact, inspiring many future healthcare professionals.
Cheryl’s personal life was filled with joy, laughter and always fun. She shared 43 beautiful years with her partner, Kerry Smith, whom she met in Vancouver. Cheryl cherished her family deeply and she is survived by her nephew, Peter (Sarah) Soroka of Henley-on-Thames, England, Gregg (Jessie) Soroka of Kelowna, BC, and her niece Laurie (Peter) Tauriainen of Dallas, Tx. Cheryl also had a special bond with her great nephews and nieces, including Nick (Nicole), Alyssia, Tom, Serena Gabe, Tamire,Thelma, Mikko (Summer) and Matti. Cheryl is also remembered fondly by the Smith family – Jeffery (Leanne) and their daughters Kaitlin and Hailey and Sean Kent.
Known for her organizational skills and her trusty clipboard, Cheryl was a pillar of reliability and efficiency and was always into “planning the next big event”. Being very athletic, Cheryl spent countless hours teaching her nephews and nieces how to water and downhill ski and play tennis. Her adventurous spirit and athletic prowess were admired by all. Cheryl’s nickname “Dong", given to her by little Nick, stayed with her throughout her life and became a term of endearment among her loved ones.
Following her retirement, Cheryl and Kerry embarked on numerous travels, exploring destinations such as Australia, Mexico, England and White Bear Lake. Cheryl always considered “the prairies” to be her true home.
A celebration of Chery’s life will be held at Cannington Manor Church in Cannington, Saskatchewan on July 19th, 2025, at 12:00pm. Donations in Cheryl’s memory can be made to Cannington to help maintain the park setting and the church.
Cheryl Entwistle’s legacy is one of love, dedication and adventure. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
