CANDY (NEE TISHER), Kirsten

CANDY (NEE TISHER), Kirsten

Kirsten (or Kit, as she was known to family and close friends), went to be with her Lord and Saviour in the early morning of December 11th, 2017 while at the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo General Hospital. Kirsten was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on November 17th, 1960. As a child, she moved with her family to Kelowna in the summer of 1966 where she attended both elementary and high school. Later, she studied at the University of Ottawa, David Thompson University in Nelson, and was awarded a Bachelor's Degree (with distinction) in Art History from the University of Victoria. Kit was an accomplished artist, a voracious reader, loved crossword puzzles, scrabble, music, and garage sales.

Kit is survived by her husband, Ron Candy, her parents, Bert and Lily Tisher of Kelowna, B.C., her five sisters; Karen (Lance) Mustonen of Castlegar, B.C., Debbie (Kevin) Porterfield of Clearwater, B.C., her twin, Kathy Tisher of Kelowna, B.C., Carmen (Tim) Huisinga of Coon Rapids, MN, and Andrea (Todd) Machnee of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by her two step-daughters Lynnette and Monica and two grand-daughters, Ella and Kaija. Kit was a beloved aunt and also leaves to mourn 13 nieces and nephews and one great-niece. She will be forever missed.

A memorial celebrating her life and a show of her art, will be held in Kelowna at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a local food bank would be appreciated.

So sorry to hear of Kitty's passing. During my time at Dr. Knox Jr., Kitty was one of my favourite students. She always had a smile for everyone she came in contact with and her gentle humour was a lift to anyone who was having a down day. I will keep many happy memories of Kitty with me.
