The man with the golden voice and personality synonymous to thousands with Benvoulin Rd. Strawberries has gone silent. I had a fortuitous encounter with Wilbur in the early nineties when I was in need of a solid field assistant I could work with during our annual harvest seasons. Wilbur turned out to be this person in spades, became my right hand man for the subsequent twenty plus years. He possessed all the attributes that an employer could wish for and more. Wilbur and Doris soon became integral to our harvest seasons, and valued friends to us and extended family. Will was a gentleman and highly principled individual, with a one hundred per cent commitment to his undertakings. Berry pickers young and old appreciated his amiable and genuine personality, his fairness and efficiency. Will possessed ease of communication spanning all age groups. Will was a great partner during harvest season, we shared the challenges and the pleasures. I am forever grateful for his devotion, support and friendship. Wilbur's heaven would be incomplete without a strawberry patch nearby ."Y'all come back now, you hear?"
