Deborah and family - we were shocked and saddened to hear about Jonel's passing. Although we only met her once, she left a lasting impression with her bright smile and positive attitude. May your memories of her grow fonder over time and help you through your sorrow - Wendy Niziol and Ray Phillips - Jan 10, 2019
I'm so saddened by Jonel's passing. I was one of her professors here at the University of Massachusetts. I'm originally from western Canada, so Jonel and I would often share a few laughs about our similar perspective on things. Jonel was an outstanding student, but I'll remember her most simply for being such a pleasant and genuine person -- always a smile, always so positive, and always respectful of others. She will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to Jonel's family.

Shocked beyond belief, I just heard the news and my heart aches for you and all those who knew Jonel. She was a true gem. Her tenacity on the sports field, yet gentle manner and fun loving spirit off the field will always be a memory in our hearts. I feel privileged to have known her. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
May her spirit live on within each of us.

To Deb & Family: There isn't a word or words that can express the pain and emptiness you must have in your hearts. There's no bigger tragedy in life as a parent then the loss of your child! I never knew your daughter, but I knew you. The resemblance to you is unbelievable! Reading her story and hearing some of her accomplishments she truly must have been a gifted person, then again you were her Mom! My thoughts go out to you at this tragic and must feel like surreal time! Bill Coderre - Jan 03, 2019
So saddened to hear of Jonel's passing. There will never be another Jonel, only wish we had her here longer. What a mighty, powerful force! What a shining example for the rest of us! She was a beauty in every sense of the word and will be so very missed by anyone who had the good fortune to meet her. Truly an angel. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deborah, Al and Jaret at this time.

Hi Jonel,
I've never met you and my heart breaks for you in Heaven and your Family!
You were a select Collegiate athlete that I wished I would have worked as hard as you and obtained your credentials 20 year ago:)
Something went wrong just recently for you and I'm so really confused to why the world lost an amazing mentor athlete, daughter, sister and forever friend.
Heart-wrenching!!!!!
You will be truly missed in this community and your world of atheltes!
Kind regards,

My first memory of Nellie was when she arrived for a dinner date with Alan and Deborah, literally brand new. I got to watch her grow up and become the beautiful person we will always remember. She tried her best at whatever she did, and was the easiest to coach (not to mention how lucky we were to perpetually have her on our teams). With her beguiling modesty and zest for life, she inspired us all. Too short, but what a life well lived!

Jonel was an "A"(!) student-athlete in my senior level strategic management class at Hofstra. She was in a group that sat opposite the teaching podium, so we would chat about the successes of the Field Hockey team, led by her excellence! When she told me of her plans to attend my Alma Mater, the Isenberg School at the University of Massachusetts, I was especially proud. We were in contact, albeit sporadically, during her time in Amherst (MA). Her infectious pleasant demeanor is fondly remembered.
My sincerest condolences to her family in her untimely passing.

I am very sorry for your loss. I went to school with Jonel - a fellow french immersion student. She was always positive, with a bright smile and great laugh. She excelled at pretty much every sport she played, running circles around most of us in gym class. She will be missed.
