BARTEL, Richard "Dick"

BARTEL, Richard

May 22, 1935 - February 18, 2022

Dick Bartel, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 86 years on February 18, 2022. After struggling with dementia for a number of years he spent the last two years at the Village at Mill Creek.

Born in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan, one of 11 siblings, to the late Jacob Peter Bartel and Maria (Loewen) Bartel who immigrated to Canada from Steinau, Russia in 1926. Dick arrived in Kelowna, BC in 1947 with his family. In 1956, he joined Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers where he spent 35 years with the company traveling to auction sales and enjoying customers from all over the world. Dick moved to the West Coast in 1965, and it wasn't until 1991 that he returned to Kelowna.

Generosity, fairness, kindness, and love emanated from Dick, and he was dearly loved in return by his family and friends. In his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course, traveling, standardbred racing, fishing, gardening, and of course playing crib.

Dick's memory will be cherished by his family: Patricia Bartel, who was his loving wife for 64 years; his children Darren Bartel (Karen), Stephanie Bartel (Brent), and Theresa Bartel Corazzin (Carlo); his grandchildren Mitchell Bartel (Alexis), CJ Corazzin, and Nic Corazzin; his great-grandson Liam; and also many nieces and nephews. He will also be lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings; brothers Henry "Hank", Frank, and Abe; and sisters Catherine (Frank) Pankratz, and Anne Forde. He goes to join those who have gone before him; brothers Jake, Peter, and John; sisters Mary and Margaret; along with his parents Jacob and Maria.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ruth Bazzana and all who cared for him at the Village at Mill Creek.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at The Harvest Golf Club, 2725 K. L. O. Road, Kelowna, BC.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to the Alzheimers Society of Canada, www.alzheimer.ca.

    Pat and family,

Upon arriving in Kelowna in 1947Dick became a classmate of mine at the Richter St Elementary School. He was the quietest, most sincere, and polite person in the school. After 35 years of working with the 3 Ritchie Bros. ,Ritchie Bros Auctions,

and building the business he remained the same.

In retirement he gave his time and financial support to community programs.

Tho his health was failing the last time we spoke, the smile and bright eyes Had not changed!

My thoughts are with you and your family.

To Dick’s family I want to send my father’s condolences, Willard Burgart of Penticton. He golfed with Dick and his brother, Henry, who has been a good friend for many years. My father has lost touch with Henry and if it is at all possible please let us know how he can give him his condolences in person or over the phone. The last time he talked with Henry, was when he was living in Athen’s Creek in Penticton. Alzheimer’s is so hard on the family, I know as our mother died of the dreadful disease. Condolences go to your family. Laurie Desautels 250-764-8412

Pat, we offer our condolences on the passing of Dick. We were only in your company on a few occasions, but they were good times. My brother, Russ Cmolik, has some great stories about working with Dick over the years. The Legend of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers book was also a delightful read to learn more about the company that Dick helped to build. Our thoughts are with you. Dennis and Gail Glasscock

    Pat and family

I am so sorry for your loss. Our last visit was at the Japanese restaurant before a movie. Although a struggle, Pat, you managed with such grace. I remember having a wee visit with Dick at the end of your driveway when the golf cart had broken down some years before that. Dick was definitely a kind man.....he truly was a true gentlman! Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. My most sincere condolences.
