BARTEL, Mary

BARTEL, Mary

***Service Announcement***
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 4th, 2019 at 11:00 am at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship, 3714 Gordon Drive.

1925 - 2018
Mary (Krahn) Bartel was welcomed into the arms of her Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ on December 14, 2018 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Jacob Albert (Jake).

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family; Dave (Marg), Darlene Bankert, Bev Nystrom (Glen), Ken (Marilyn), Sandy Schreiner (Kevin), Brian (Eileen), Bruce (Crystal), Sheila Haasdyk (Fred), Rob (Connie); 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Erika Krahn; additional Bartel brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her mother, Mary Krahn; brother, Cornelius Krahn; son-in-law, Daniel Bankert; and granddaughter, Amanda Nystrom.

Mary was born October 14, 1925 in Arnaud, Manitoba. During World War 2, she was introduced to Jake, by her brother Cornelius, and they became avid penpals. Mary and Jake were married May 2, 1948 in Arnaud and moved to Rutland, B.C. where they established their home and raised their 9 children.

Mary was one of the founding members of Kelowna Gospel Fellowship Church and was very active in the Ladies Mission Circle, making blankets to be sent overseas. Mary took pride in the thousands of blankets she made over the years.

Mary had a busy life, but not too busy to volunteer at the MCC Store in Kelowna, as well as, working part time at Sun Rype to help meet the needs of their growing family.

Mary enjoyed all family functions, whether making meals, or playing games. Her grandchildren will attest to them having to earn a win at a game with her!

The family would like to thank Village at Smith Creek Care Home for the excellent and compassionate care that she received from the staff in Webber Community.

Mary was laid to rest Friday, December 21st, 2018.

Donations in memory of Mary Bartel, may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)
