BARNES, Roxy Joanne

BARNES, Roxy Joanne

In loving memory of Roxy Joanne Barnes
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Roxy Joanne Barnes, formerly of Lac La Hache on Tuesday May 19, 2020 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Roxy spent 45 years doing librarian work and the last 16 years of her career as the Area Librarian in 100 Mile House. Upon her death, a colleague wrote of her respect and admiration for Roxy as a librarian and all she did for the 100 Mile Community.
To mourn her loss Roxy leaves behind her sister Anne of Kelowna, nephew Dustin (Alecia) of Vancouver, niece Dawn (Jeff) and great nieces Ciera and Jetta of Kelowna.
In Prince George, she leaves behind her niece Shelley (Tim) great niece Taylor and great nephew James as well as nephew Shane (Maria) and great nieces Becky and Reanna. She will be greatly missed by many cousins. Roxy was predeceased by her parents, Bert and Vera Barnes, her brother Wayne and sister in law Brenda as well as her nephew Jared.
A Celebration of Life will hopefully be held later this summer depending on the Covid restrictions. Anyone wishes to attend may contact Anne at [email protected] for info as it becomes available.

Special thanks to Dr. Clarke and the wonderful nurses at the Cancer Clinic, the Community Palliative Care nurses and the nurses and staff at the Okanagan Hospice House.

I have many great memories of my cousin, Roxie, our family historian. One summer, when I was a young teen, I had the pleasure of spending time with Roxie, her sister Anne and brother Wayne at their family farm. Roxie & I happened to be alone one day and I, the big city cousin, asked Roxie if we could go horseback riding. I told her I would saddle the horses and went about the task with great intentions and no idea of what I was doing. No sooner had we started out when, to my great shock, the horses let out their breaths and Roxie's saddle, with her attached, slipped and suddenly she was upside down, underneath the horse. Thankfully she fell off but the horse took off with my uncle's favorite saddle blanket. The horse came home later but the blanket was never seen again.
Roxie and Anne went on a road trip a few years ago and came to visit my husband and I in Nanaimo. We had a wonderful visit and shared a lot of laughs.
Roxie was one of a kind and will be sadly missed by her close family and friends.
Thinking of you, Anne, and sending my love and condolences.
    Cousin, Marilyn Collier

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of Roxy’s loved ones. She was a longtime friend (since kindergarten) and I always loved the fact that she was always herself- practical, honest and caring. She adored her family. Rest well Roxy.?? You will be so missed.

I went to school with Roxy in Enderby. Her father coached a minor hockey team that I played on. Sorry for the loss of one of my school mates.
