ARCHONDOUS, Pauline (nee Ward-Jones) UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION
January 12, 1943 - August 6, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Pauline Archondous, on August 6, 2023. We feel blessed with the knowledge that she is reunited with her eternal companion, our dad, Andrew.
Pauline was born in Uxbridge, England on January 12, 1943. While living in London, she met and married her sweetheart, Andrew Archondous, on June 23, 1962. Pauline and Andrew were both hairdressers; they owned and ran hair salons as well as other businesses before they immigrated to Canada with their 4 oldest children, arriving in Calgary, AB in 1974. Pauline’s life wasn’t easy, but she was strong, facing trials and standing by Dad for 60 years through sickness and health.
Our mom had a way of making everyone feel loved and special, and she won people over immediately with her playful sense of humour and kind heart. She loved music, and dancing with our dad. She loved to sing (she had such a beautiful voice) and sang to all of her children and grandchildren. We all have memories of her singing “You Are My Sunshine”. She was an amazing cook and very talented in floral design and needlework, and beautifully decorated for many weddings of friends and family. She served in many capacities at her church, and she always found time to listen and support anyone who needed her.
Through her example, she taught us to fight for what we believe in and to advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves. She showed us that these things can all be done with kindness, love, and respect. She taught us to be polite, and most importantly, she taught us to persevere through the hard times and to always find joy! We were truly blessed to have such a beautiful example of strength, kindness, and compassion.
Pauline is survived by her children, Phil (Linnea), Chris (Tracy), Julie, Jason (Jenny), and James (Adrienne); as well as by many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Andrew, who passed away on June 29, 2022; and their infant daughter, Nicola Louise, who passed away before they immigrated to Canada.
Dementia stole Mom’s thoughts and memories, but even with dementia, she never forgot to be the kind and wonderful woman she aways was. Our family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at LAKEVIEW LODGE for taking such good care of our mom. We are so grateful to them for treating her like their own family.
Mom, enjoy your time with baby Nicola, Dad, and all of our other loved ones up there. God bless until we meet again.
In lieu of flowers, if you feel so inclined to do so, please donate to Alzheimer’s Society, alzheimer.ca, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca, so that maybe others may be blessed with a cure for these diseases.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 3:00 pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2170 McDougall Road, West Kelowna, BC, V1Z 3A3. A light lunch will be served.
