ANHORN, Richard (Rick) Ronald

ANHORN, Richard (Rick) Ronald

ANHORN, Richard Ronald July 5, 1960 – January 2, 2018

Left us suddenly and too soon at his home in West Kelowna.

Anyone and everyone who knew Rick knew the man he was – caring, compassionate and always there when you needed him. He was always wanting to chat, or teach the grand daughters non-school appropriate things. He was a joker, a teaser, but it was all done with the biggest heart.

Rick is survived by his wife Cheryl; son Tyler Anhorn (Jessica Sparling) of Peachland; daughter Jessica Winkler (child of the world); Mother Hilde Anhorn of Kelowna; Add-on children – Melissa Lafferty (West Kelowna); Rachelle Blanchard (Summerland); Kyle and Amy Blanchard (Calgary); Kristin Blanchard (Jeff Lyons) of Kelowna; His granddaughters, the Seven Wonders of the World – Maya, Ava, Zoe, Danica, Kendra, Alexis and Natalie and his honorary Grandson Nash Scott; His siblings – Uli (Linda) Anhorn of Calgary; Claudia (Brad) Jefferies of Devon AB, Tom (Sharlene) Anhorn of West Kelowna; Sonya Degner of Kelowna; and Susan Anhorn of Calgary; Beloved Nieces and Nephews – Jackie, Michelle, Allison, Justin, Krystal, Nicholas, Melissa, Dean, Christopher and all of their families; Aunts and Uncles – Fritz Giese of Calgary; Gus (Sandy) Anhorn of Creston; Olga (Joe) Hoehn of Creston; Emily (Terry) Vold of Medicine Hat AB; Marty (Debbie) Anhorn of Kelowna; Many cousins from here, Germany and the U.S.; Lucky Dog – his Golden Child; and extended family and friends too numerous to mention.

Rick was predeceased by his father Berthold (Bert) Anhorn; nephew Jason Degner and brother in law Neil Degner.

Rick was born and raised in Calgary, spending his younger years in the Fairview area until moving to Okotoks. After graduating he worked in the oil patch pipelining. He relocated back and forth from Calgary to Kelowna until finally making Kelowna home.

Rick spent many hours involved with Tyler’s hockey from team manager to the Executive of Westside Minor Hockey Association. The hockey rink is where he and Cheryl met. The friendship grew.

Rick and Cheryl were partners in all aspects of their life. They worked side by side at their business, Anhorn Painting. He took pride in putting his name on his work.

Rick so enjoyed the many camping and fishing trips with family and friends. Everything is better around a campfire and its not about the fish. Many memories were made taking the granddaughters camping at HIS FINTRY.

A funeral service will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1910 Windsor Rd, Kelowna, BC on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at 11:00AM.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the first responders for their efforts and compassion.

Memorial donations may be made to COSAR (Central Okanagan Search and Rescue) Suite 260 101-1865 Dilworth Drive, Kelowna BC, V1Y 9T1

Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services - West Kelowna Arrangement Centre, 250-768-8925.
