ANDERSON, Dorothy Caroline

ANDERSON, Dorothy Caroline

April 28, 1929 - February 6, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Caroline Anderson announce her passing on February 6, 2021, at the age of 91.

Dorothy was loved by all who met her. Affectionately known as "Nana" to almost all, she had an incredible love for children and gathered small friends wherever she went. She was generous and loving to everyone and had a beautiful smile that lit up a room. Dorothy was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and loved to tell stories of her childhood. She married an Alberta farm boy in the early 1950s, and moved to Alberta to begin her life as a farmer's wife.

Dorothy proudly raised 5 daughters, and was a wonderful and caring mother. She loved to garden, cook and bake, knit and crochet, and was a fantastic seamstress. She took her love of creating matching outfits for her girls and later made a career from her sewing skills - sewing NHL hockey pants. She also took the time to lovingly and patiently pass her skills and hobbies on to her family as they grew. Dorothy was extremely proud of her 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She talked about them all often, and her great-grandchildren were especially the lights of her life in her later years. She had a deep love of music, that she passed along to her daughters as she taught them to sing harmonies almost as soon as they could talk. Even in her last days, the starting chords of a hymn would bring a sense of calm and happiness to her.

Dorothy will be honoured and never forgotten. She leaves her family with beautiful memories that will become their strength as they navigate life without their Mother, Grandmother, Nana.

She is survived by her daughters Janice (Allen), Rose (Myron), Karen, and Lori Anne (Trent); her grandchildren Mindy, Deane, Michael, Steven, Sean (Brittney), Zachary, Alisanne, and Sanae (Jessy); and her great-grandchildren Darryl, Tyson, Jeremy, Caden, Carly, and Maverick; along with her brother Herb. Dorothy was sadly predeceased by her loving husband Bob; daughters Patsy and Colleen; sisters Hilda and May; and her son-in-law Wayne.

Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Lymphoma Society of Canada, www.llscanada.org.

I'll Be Waiting for You

Although your heart may be broken,
There's no need to weep for me.
I'm in a wonderful place now,
Where I'm happy and so carefree

I had to go, but I've left behind
Good memories to comfort you.
Concentrate on the best times we had,
And try not to feel so blue.

For one day we'll be together again,
To laugh and sing and play.
You'll be so glad to see me again,
It will seem I was gone just one day.

So try to lift up your heads now,
And dare to set grief aside,
Because l'll be waiting here for you,
To welcome you to the other side.
