ALTON (NEE STONE) (NEE ST. GEORGE), Kimberlee

ALTON (NEE STONE) (NEE ST. GEORGE), Kimberlee

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kimberlee Alton [Stone] (St. George) on November 29 2018. Predeceased by her Mother: Dean St. George (2009) and Father: Bryan St. George (2013). Kim is survived by her loving son Eben Alton, daughter in law Laura Harvey, dear friend Alain, Brothers Kevin St. George and Gordon St. George and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kim was born on January 23, 1957 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved with her family to Kelowna in 1965. She worked for the family business, St. Georges Moving & Storage, before she attended the University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University, completing her Masters of Education in 2002. Kim was a very loving and compassionate daughter, mother and friend. She was passionate about reading, learning, and spending time with her family and friends. Sadly, on many occasions, her mental illness took a hold of her and kept her from the people and things she loved most. In recent years Kim enjoyed volunteering her time to help those who found themselves living on the streets of Kelowna, providing aid and comfort to the most vulnerable in our society. Some will remember her from the modified recumbent bicycle she would ride around town on, often with a trailer in tow filled with water and granola bars. She would always stop and spare some time for anyone who needed a friend.

In memory of Kim, please take time to offer support and compassion to those in your community who may be struggling. As individuals in a caring community, we need to take time to understand more clearly the broad and complex issues that surround those who are dealing with mental health issues.

Mental illness is experienced by 1 of 3 Canadians in their lifetime. Many of us are affected either directly or indirectly and respond with fear, ignorance and discrimination that only add to the suffering. Rather than fear and discrimination we need to offer empathy, kindness and understanding to our family, friends, neighbours and community.

Not sure if you remember me but you and I reconnected at May's funeral several years ago.

I remember Kim from Elementary School in Kelowna. So sorry for the loss. May she have found the peace she so searched for.

Eben, Kevin, Gord and family, sorry to hear of Kim's passing. Remember Kim well from the days of St George moving and all the good times we all had and how Kim was the one that wanted and did the arrangements for Christmas parties and fun events we all enjoyed as employees and friends. You always knew where you stood with Kim, said it the way it was and sometimes in a colourful speech - was on the receiving end a few times. Love to all the St George family and RIP, Kim, you earned a good rest.

Dear Eben, Gordon, Kevin and families,

We were very sorry to hear of Kim's passing. She will missed by all of us. She was always the first to initiate a party and always so caring of other people and putting others first. We have missed her frankness and laughter and are sorry we lost touch after losing Bryan.
