A Fraser Valley school trustee is slamming B.C.'s trans-friendly curriculum as "biologically absurd."
Chilliwack's Barry Neufeld says the curriculum, designed to discourage bullying and educate children about gender identity, is the product of "radical cultural nihilists."
Neufeld, who has been a trustee for 25 years, posted the rebuke to his Facebook page, Monday.
"At the risk of being labelled a bigoted homophobe, I have to say that I support traditional family values and I agree with the (U.S.) College of Pediatricians that allowing little children choose to change gender is nothing short of child abuse," he wrote.
The lesson plan recognizes the right of students to self-identify gender and be addressed by their preferred gender pronoun, which is protected under the Human Rights Code.
"If this represents the values of Canadian society, count me out! said Neufeld, a church subdeacon and prison chaplain.
Education Minister Rob Fleming defended the curriculum, saying anti-trans bullying needs to be addressed.
