Hockey Team Bus Crash

  • Family and friends of a junior women's hockey team from Windsor, Ont., are in shock following a tragic highway accident in New York state.

    Three people aboard the team's bus and the driver of a tractor-trailer were killed after the bus collided with the truck on an expressway 40 km south of Rochester late Saturday afternoon.

    Nineteen others on the bus were hurt and taken to hospital. On Sunday morning, six had been treated and released, three were intensive care and 10 were in satisfactory condition.Full story
  • Polls have closed and ballot counting has begun after Iraq's first free election in a half century, with officials reporting a higher than expected turnout of registered voters amid attacks and threats of violence. Insurgents carried out more than a dozen attacks across the country on Sunday, killing at least 25 people and wounding 71 others.   • Israel will transfer security control over several West Bank towns to the Palestinians in coming days, Israel's defense minister said Sunday, hours after he met with a top Palestinian security official to work out the details of Israel's troop redeployment. A senior Palestinian security official said the first four towns — Ramallah, Tulkarem, Qalqiliya and Jericho — would be handed over on Wednesday, the latest sign of rapid change on the ground after more than four years of fighting.Full story
