We Remember Auschwitz

  • The sound of an imaginary train opened the 60th anniversary commemoration ceremony of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a symbol of the more than a million people who were transported to their death.   • The man who authorities say caused the train derailment that killed at least 11 was to face criminal charges Thursday for driving his SUV onto a railroad track in an apparent attempt to commit suicide.   • Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Thursday he is looking forward to resuming negotiations with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, adding he is "very satisfied" with his efforts to clamp down on militant violence.
