Toll Tops 80,000

The death toll from the southern Asia tsunami climbed to more than 80,000 Wednesday, with every fourth citizen believed dead in parts of the hardest-hit area, the Indonesian province of Aceh on the island of Sumatra.

After Indonesian officials raised their official tally to 45,268 on Wednesday, the International Red Cross warned that deaths in the Indian Ocean disaster could eventually top 100,000.Full story
