Yushchenko Victorious

  • Opposition leader Victor Yushchenko has declared victory in Ukraine's third presidential vote.

    With more than 98 per cent of Sunday's ballot counted, election officials say Yushchenko has a statistically unbeatable lead, with 52 per cent against about 44 per cent for Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych.

    With his victory all but certain, Yushchenko offered an acceptance speech to elated supporters early Monday in Kiev's Independence Square.Full story
